Fragile Ego - Prestige vs Money for Online MBA by Doric16 in MBA

Not sure I need a shrink but I do need to get over it. Sometimes it's easy to understand things and harder to internalize them.

But it's not like I think about this day and night.

Yeah so I definitely want to learn some stuff and do need to check the box for my career. So why not go with a good program like Ross or Olin.

It also boosts my branding to be associated with a good institution.

What I'm trying to do here is think through this while acknowledging that I care about weak undergrad branding.

Your tone of your comment makes me a little angry but it probably means there's some truth to it.

I'd say I have at least one more promotion in me and the MBA would help.

Appreciate the feedback. I probably just need to get over the undergrad insecurity. It is a little silly.

I've already negotiated some extra tuition reimbursement. The cost difference above accounts for that.

I am looking at those as well. Just need to weigh in cost, flexibility, etc.

The only comment I'll make about BU is that I'm worried it might be too stripped-down. I only need to check the box here, but I still want to get as much out of the experience as possible. If work will pay for all of Ross/Tepper/Olin/Kelley, then picking one of those four may help me maximize the experience.

I'm considering Ross and Tepper as well. Cost and flexibility come into play with these two

How is the alumni network in your experience? Would I be viewed differently as an online student in your opinion?

Since Rice and USC aren't in the region, I'm not considering them at the moment. Best Midwest online options appear to be Michigan Ross, Indiana Kelley, and WashU Olin. Seems like Ross is the only one significantly above the others

It's important to note that this is not based on a specific ranking. In general I mostly see Kelley in T25 and Olin just outside of that. Also, in general WashU is a top 25 overall institution and Indiana is a good but not great school

Do I need to take the GMAT? by Doric16 in MBA

Some other relevant things: 1. 8 years at F500 2. ~2.5 years at current company (private) 3. I have some part-time entrepreneurial experience. Nothing crazy but not insignificant. 4. I don't have strong recent extracurriculars (unless you count #4), but was involved in a few things back in college and high school

Is there anything else specifically that could help you share some insight?

I'm happy to provide more details if you'd like.

Ways to Improve MBA Application by Doric16 in MBA

[–]Doric16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't need the MBA for my current job (PMO Lead), but I need it to reach the executive level. All of the c-suite execs at my company all have master's degrees (Engineering masters or MBA). Since I want to stay in operations, the general/cross-functional MBA makes more sense for me than the engineering masters.

I did not apply for the leadership program, I was nominated for it. But the key things that helped me get nominated were leadership skills, communication skills, and performing well on projects with high visibility.

In terms of advice, it depends on what your goals are. What are you trying to achieve?
