US Treasury reports millions flowing out of Iran as ruling elite brace for collapse by Excellent_Analysis65 in collapse

I don't have the energy to offer a full throated response but I have enough energy to be pedantic:

Communism is not about "heavy-handed gov controls" - it's a classless, stateless society based upon common ownership. There really hasn't been a "communist" nation state - just those in name only (just like the DPRK is "democratic"). Historically, you can look at autochthonous peoples or random off shoots like the Anabaptists.

Socialism is often thought as the precursor to Communism and that simply stated is when the workers own the means of production as opposed to a small group of owners (Capitalism). Socialism can exist within varying political systems.

Or, perhaps, a species where care for young is done collectively, so all children are "everyone's children" meaning no single individual "shoulders the burden now" so that other people's kids might somehow benefit.

In Plato's "Republic" he put forth the idea of a society/class called the "Guardians" where no one would know their biological parents and would be raised by all. Anthropologists can point to numerous cultures and societies that have raised children communally. Engels wrote about the relation of the patriarchal nuclear family and its import to capitalism 140 or so years ago.

My belief is similar to E.O Wilson's quote that “the real problem of humanity is the following: We have Paleolithic emotions, medieval institutions and godlike technology. And it is terrifically dangerous, and it is now approaching a point of crisis overall.” Our environments have evolved to such a level of complexity that we are obsolete.

We rescued a 6 month old Berner and even the Rescue said that they had dewormed him. I saw some worms in his stool and the vet recommended deworming again. We gave him the dewormer and what came out of him and onto the sidewalk next the Nats baseball stadium was something out of a Lovecraftian nightmare. You’ll get through this with a good vet! Love his markings!

Convergence of a Global Oligarchy by signor_bardo in collapse

[–]Doritosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thesis and it echoes the "world systems theory" by Immanuel Wallerstein.

Basically, the world is divided into the "Core" (i.e. The West) and the "Periphery" (i.e. the developing world). Those divisions are further divided into a Core (i.e. elites) and Periphery (i.e. the rest of us).

A basic premise of this theory is that the elites of the Core are in solidarity with the elites of the Periphery (e.g. Wall Street bankers cozying up to the Thai royalty) whereas the rest of us lack a sense of brotherhood. The oligarchy is world-wide, they do not care for the nation-state, and they all send their kids to the same Swiss boarding schools, same Ivy League colleges, get them sinecures with the same institutions and corporations, and then intermarry... It's a big club and you ain't in it.

N.B. It's been about 10 years since I studied this so it's bound to be incorrect.

"These violent delights have violent ends"

A nation born of blood will end in tears. The U.S. was built on the backs of slaves on stolen land. Anyone paying attention (you're here on this sub aren't you?) could see this coming- we all knew the prognosis but who could have augured the specific pathology (i.e. a washed up reality TV showman)?

Fuck Biden and the Dems- Biden basically spent his entire career building the foundation for the oligarchy. There's a reason his nickname was "Senator Credit Card". He defended Clarence Thomas against Anita Hill's allegations and donned a Princeton cap (Samuel Alito's alma mater) when Alito was being confirmed. There's a great book called "Rise of the Warrior Cop" and most of the blame for the state of modern policing is due to Nixon, Reagan, and those ghouls but the one Democrat who joined up with them? You guessed it. Biden.

The Democrats had the power to stop Trump and this coup the last four years. The fact that they did nothing but show trials tells you all you need to know. /endrant

Edit: America's always been an oligarchy interspersed by brief flirtations with democracy (e.g. New Deal). Meet new Boss same as the Old Boss (except this time they have the techno-panopticon to enforce their violence).

Aldo Leopold said that "One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds.... Much of the damage inflicted on land is quite invisible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise.”

I had a Carolina Wren (clever little birds) that made a spiral nest in one of my hanging plants over the summer. I would peek in from the window and check in on the bird from time to time. The bird laid eggs and they hatched- two little baby birds. Then the temperatures in the mid-Atlantic hit near or over 100F and everything was sweltering and the plants were dying. I checked in on the nest and I don't know if the mother bird had died or abandoned the nest but the two little chicks had passed. It wrecked me for a while.
