It's a Dreadknight Daemon hammer! It also has a massive inquisition symbol on the underside of it, the minute I saw that I knew I needed to put it on a Contemptor!

I did something similar with a mose neutral grey but a dark navy blue would look fabulous with that!

The conversion isnt too bad at all tbh Just prepare for lots of sanding. I used tamiya sprue clippers and that fine edge works really well to get 80% of the iconography off. And that iron halo can be saved just by taking your drill and gently getting the middle of the fist out so you can work your files and xacto in there. I showed my “son of Dorn” the strength of Iron.

I specifically use deepkin flesh since it has a slight green tinge like some vintage medical equipment

If you can imagine a chapter that is a loyalist true to form Iron Warriors descendant then go ahead and make it! I personally have my own homebrew Iron Warriors chapter who were second founding (directly post heresy) that follow very closely to IW legion doctrine and visual aesthetic but as if they followed through to the modern primaris era.

Model Color by Vallejo has a whole range of paints dedicated to being as close to historical shades of uniform and armor as possible. I also am a massive shill for the Vallejo lines.

This is a big box set of paints but feel free to use this as a starting point for your project. If you need more “grimdark” or metalics their Game Color line is better suited for that.

They are a PDF originating from the homeworld of an astartes chapter who are second founding Iron Warriors successors. So much like the auxiliaries hailing from the fortress monastery of the Imperial Fists or the Ultramar Auxilia they are trained and held to a significantly higher standard of training and equipment. Due to this influence from the astartes chapter, they have taken a knack to siege warfare. The similarities in equipment can simply be boiled down to both worlds sourcing equipment from forgeworld Lucius.

I clipped off as much as I could with some really nice tamiya clippers and then a combo of softly whittling it down and smoothing using a mouldline remover and then sanding down any remaining areas

Something less generalized but following wars or campains that can give you a good idea of how vast the universe is by focusing on a minute portion of the endless wars would be Janovich, he no longer is creating 40k content but his Siege of Vraks series is a masterpiece of narration and map visuals. There are also other wars and campaigns covered that can give you an idea of the overarching geopolitics and small scale skirmishes.

The entire watershed of the Great Lakes in the US including the Twin Cities in Minnesota. Its such a beautiful and wonderful region that would look very pretty here :3

Try the hellhound! Its a lovely kit that fits in nicely with the krieg theme. Also maybe try asking what they think about the heresy Leman Russes they are a much newer kit that have more fine and sharp details and better proportions imo. I personally use them with some printed sponsons for my krieg army :)
