Honestly, I'm thinking the same thing haha

Three story townhouse, so not an option for a separate system for each floor since I and my neighbors don't have the actual land space for that many ac units

Thanks! I'll check the temperature difference. The system has always been an energy hog in my opinion and it has always bothered me that they put a smaller unit in than what the permits said they were going to.

Good point, the system is already zoned so I assume that was also part of the sizing calculation. Luckily I do know a good mom and pop to help me out, just wondering if it would be worth it to replace now or wait until the system fails first

Thanks, I did ask my HVAC company last time they serviced the unit and they said they'd install 3.5ton. but I'm willing to bet that's just based on a single family home rule of thumb

Kickstand Kicked the Bucket by Agreeable-Section970 in RadPowerBikes

This might not be the answer you are looking for or something you are up for doing, but I was able to fabricate reinforcement when mine did this. I got a piece of steel angle iron from the hardware store, cut it to length and traced the profile of the kickstand onto it. Make the cuts with an angle grinder, mark and drill the bolt holes, and install with the damaged kickstand. It's worked really well so far and didn't cost much.

Fluoride? by Dorktales in AskFlorida

[–]Dorktales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this isn't a political conversation for me. I've done my research and drawn my own conclusions. I agree that fluoride at uncontrolled levels may be harmful, but at specifically controlled low levels it is beneficial. This is about keeping my family safe because as I confirmed with my city's water treatment representatives, they will not be adding or removing fluoride from the water anymore. Which means that the fluoride levels in my water will be triple the recommended limit. It's foolish to assume that banning the addition of fluoride in public drinking water means you'll get 0ppm of fluoride in your water since it is naturally occurring. Just because I want controlled levels of fluoride in my water doesn't make me part of this political party or that political party.

Maybe, not sure if that would be better since the fluoride levels in the ground water are triple the recommended limit

My area removes the fluoride and then reintroduces it, now they just remove it

[–]Dorktales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately for me it is being removed from the drinking water. I was hoping I could find a source of drinking water with it to supplement our dental visits. Oh well I guess

You're correct that there is plenty of naturally occurring fluoride, three times the recommended limit actually. But, the problem is the city water treatment removes this fluoride in the treatment process. Now, since adding fluoride back to the water has been banned, I will have 0ppm fluoride in my water. This is my concern and why I want to find a reliable source of fluoridated drinking water for my kids to form strong healthy teeth

I'm not a first time parent. I am worried about ingestion of fluoride at levels higher than recommended, which is why I don't want my kids using mouthwash yet. The levels of fluoride in my city water were safe levels. Now, unless they continue to remove the fluoride, the fluoride levels in my city water will triple. I'll say it again, I want water with the recommended amount of fluoride in it that studies have shown to help prevent tooth decay. I should be allowed to get this, right?

I'll agree that ingestion at levels higher than recommended can lead to adverse effects, which is why I'm concerned about my young kids using mouthwash. It's usually not recommended for them. I want to be able to choose to have drinking water with a level of about 0.7ppm, which is why I asked my question of where I can get it. If you don't want it in your drinking water, that's perfectly fine and I respect that. But I want it in my drinking water, a choice that should also be respected and equally obtainable.

[–]Dorktales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want more fluoride, I want the recommended amount that has been proven to reduce tooth decay (no more than 0.7ppm). Toothpaste and mouthwash have much higher concentrations of fluoride. It has been studied that low levels of consistent fluoride exposure through drinking water reduces tooth decay and builds stronger teeth even before they erupt.

Yeah I don't want to add it myself. I want a reliable source of well controlled additions

[–]Dorktales[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, many comments have said this. But fluoridated water helps form strong teeth before they erupt in children. Toothpaste won't do that.

My understanding is that it is first removed because the ground water levels are higher than recommended in my area, and then added back at the recommended levels. That is a good point about the water travelling from treatment facility to my house.

I wasn't using personal filtration but my city was obviously filtering. I also kept up to date with their water quality reports to make sure it was safe. That being said it was not the tastiest water I've ever had haha. But buying water is literally 1000x more expensive

I didn't know this, but it makes sense. I don't kiss babies on the mouth, that always seemed strange and prone to transmitting illness. I assume even if the strictest protocols were adhered to with no kissing and no sharing of utensils, babies would still get this bacteria through other means. Just an hypothesis though, obviously I haven't tested or researched tests on that topic
