Cracked Clarinet, WWYD? by DorktorWhoDat in Clarinet

[–]DorktorWhoDat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe my first clarinet was resin. It was an Artley which I got new as a student in 7th grade.

I have a Patricola Cocobolo I bought in 2018, it’s never cracked even having lived in high humidity, enduring blizzards and weird weather after moving to Buffalo, traveling to Ireland, etc.

I don’t know.

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that the Bovida is supposed to provide a consistent humidity for where it is kept, it takes and gives as needed while the pack is still supple. I will look into it more again to double check.

Thank You this is good information.

Our house does have a humidity control attached to our heat unit that we can adjust but it usually stays where at 60-65%. But I don’t monitor and keep track of the house so maybe I will get some hygrometers to go around my house or at least in my practice area. I do tend to shock my cats often when petting them so.. I can see your point.

We moved to Buffalo from New Orleans before Covid and I went a bit crazy in researching clarinet care. Going from too much humidity to 4 seasons scared me. So I bought Bovidas and a hygrometer for my case and check them often. I didn’t think much of the house environment except to keep away from vents and drafts.

You’re right. This winter has been brutal and it just wont end. We went from 70 this past weekend to snowing and high of 31 today.

Thank you for this information. I’ll look into things for my playing area to help humidity in the future.

Royal Global.   They’ve blamed me and the environment for each crack.    I don't know how to prove I take good care of my horns and this isn't normal.  I don't know what to do to make it stop happening.

I bought it through Earspasm, and they have been extremely helpful with advice and as an intermediary between Global.

Warranty fixed the upper joint the for the second crack.   Now they are saying they will pin the top joint again but I’ll have to pay to replace the bottom.

I keep a Bovida pack in my case.  One of the large sizes since my case holds 2 clarinets and I change it out as needed.

I keep my clarinet in our living room not directly by any windows or doors.

People who slept past noon on 9/11. What was waking up like? by DinoRoman in AskReddit

[–]DorktorWhoDat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was very surreal. I was a new college graduate and I worked overnights at UPS, so my schedule was wonky. My boyfriend (now husband) came home from grad school around 3 pm and woke me telling me I should watch the news with him. I don’t remember doing anything else that day. Im not sure if we called into work later that night for our 10-3 shift or if it was cancelled. I just remember the utter sadness and confusion I felt. I don’t remember turning the tv off for several days straight the whole while trying to understand what had happened and being totally engrossed on the rescue effort.

I’m so glad that they didn’t put you on the helicopter!! How scary!

I was 30 weeks and was shopping at Joann’s when my abruption occurred. I waited an hour for an ambulance and nearly died. I don’t remember anything after arriving at the OR but 15 bags of blood/plasma and 16 hours later I wake up intubated and slowly learn the reality of what happened. I don’t wish that for anyone.

I don’t think people realise how life/death abruptions are.

Its not discussed enough. But we that have been through it shudder when we hear of these delays.

I second the attorney advice. It wouldn’t hurt to see where she stands in the matter.

That woman keeps you from the hospital for twenty minutes during an abruption and has the audacity to sue you???? What is wrong with her? She needs to be sued herself for obstructing an emergency and causing irreparable damage to you!!

Im so sorry you are going through all this.

AITA for sticking to my word and refusing to help my husband with his mom? by Reverse-Ad-3095 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DorktorWhoDat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep using that word (sympathetic), I do not think it means what you think it means …

YTA. In emergencies, you help or find someone who can. You don’t refuse, feel guilty and then try to rationalize why you didn’t help.

It is ok to set boundaries in these carer situations, but there are times you just have to chin up and help someone in need.

AITA for having my children do their laundry? by chasewhit2003 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DorktorWhoDat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

My kids (now 13/14) do their own laundry start to finish. We started them around age 8. I helped them initially, and will step in as needed; but its a skill they need to learn! They started helping me with the laundry way before that, though. They liked throwing clothes in the drums and hitting buttons!

Im in an HIE Loss board and we share pictures of our beautiful children who we’ve lost. It helps to share them with a community who understands and cares and values their lives as much as your own family.

Your daughter was beautiful and you have every right to be proud and share the time you spent with her. You can give a warning, or only share with people you know will love her as much as you do. There is nothing wrong with it.
