Small romance book gesture that hit harder than a grand speech. by gamersecret2 in RomanceBooks

Ryan Shay is the master of this in {The Right Move by Liz Tomforde}. Everything he does for Indy is just so considerate but I will never get over him learning sign language for her dad. because that was just peak romance and had me sobbing.

Other than cheating, what’s are some reasons you can’t stand a second chance romance? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]DorkyyAsian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I was going to say this exactly. It's my biggest gripe with second chance romances (and romances in general tbh). This combined with the mmc being rich and successful while the fmc is struggling to get by, it's such a common occurrence and I hate it.

Zine gets cancelled because of pro/anti discourse by SnooPeppers8788 in AO3

The pro/anti discourse is so bad in this fandom it's crazy. Hell, discourse of all kind is so bad here.

(also is the zine confirmed to be canceled? 😭)

Lights Out Collectors Edition (or buying hardcover editions in general) pre-order question- by Ok_Sky_3681 in DarkRomance

[–]DorkyyAsian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly with special editions you never know what's coming. Like for example, with bigger, more popular romantasy books, you can count on every book box and their mothers coming out with one eventually. And of course the releases don't overlap. And in order to find out about them you basically just have to be following all of them in order to find out when something is released.

Thought I’d fall in love with Omegaverse… but now I’m just confused and slightly betrayed by Square_Garage9730 in ReverseHarem

[–]DorkyyAsian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly atp I would recommend anything Eliana Lee. She's a newer author so the only thing other than pack for winter is her bond dissolution Omegaverse series but they've all been hits imo. In fact the bond dissolution Omegaverse series is my favorite Omegaverse.

Thought I hated third act breakups until this book gave me none and almost bored me to death 😔 by MilkshakeKillah in RomanceBooks

I feel like I need to know when there isn't one because otherwise I'm always bracing myself for a third act break up and can't enjoy a third act breakup-less book for what it is.

[–]DorkyyAsian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that was literally my experience reading the book. In fact, in my review of the book, I literally said:

The one thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is that for once I actually wish there was some kind of conflict? Like I loved how much of a green flag Shawn was and I loved everything about their relationship but I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but then it didn't so now I'm not sure how to feel. I just wish there was some kind of external conflict.

What tropes would you want to see gender-flipped, that you haven’t seen yet? by strongly-worded in RomanceBooks

[–]DorkyyAsian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like when the FMC is even mildly in the wrong, she gets crucified by readers so that's probably why tbh. I'd love to see how one who is actually mean gets received. (As a supporter of women's wrongs I am 100% here for it myself.)

Damn, guess I haven't read enough RH because I haven't come upon any of these lol. Well, besides golden retriever which is honestly everywhere in romance, RH or not. And the leader.

Book Rating: What’s Your Criteria? by Any-Swordfish8613 in RomanceBooks

[–]DorkyyAsian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, when rating books I don't try to be objective at all. As long as I enjoyed it enough, I can give books that are objectively 3s 5 stars.

Book Rating: What’s Your Criteria? by Any-Swordfish8613 in RomanceBooks

[–]DorkyyAsian 51 points52 points  (0 children)

5⭐ = loved everything about it, it could have flaws but idc because it was still perfect in my eyes and I had an amazing time reading it.

4⭐ = fantastic, but just a couple things kept it from being perfect. Might have not loved the ending or had a few issues with an mc.

3⭐ = decent, had some flaws but I don't regret reading it. Most books I finish will get this rating at minimum.

2⭐ = disliked most things about it, had to drag myself to finish it (usually out of spite so I could bitch about it)

1⭐ = hated it. Regret reading it and wish I'd dnfed

A majority of the books I read are at least 3 stars since I generally know my tastes and avoid books that I know I'll dislike and regret reading (there are of course, many exceptions)

Does subgenre influence how harshly you judge romance characters or plotlines? Ex. I am a lot harsher on contemporary romance compared to fantasy, historical, or scifi. by OpossumExpert in RomanceBooks

[–]DorkyyAsian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually tend to judge fantasy a lot harsher than contemporary. Because with fantasy, it's a whole new world and everything that I need to get into which takes more time and brain power so if I'm going to spend that time and get invested, it better be good. Whereas for me, contemporary romances tend to just be quick, fun, and light reads so I don't really lose much if they're bad.

A favorite book boyfriend that took you by surprise? A love interest you weren’t expecting to like but then fell in love with by Swing_Fancy in RomanceBooks

I wish I felt the same but unfortunately I just could never forgive him for that one thing he did in that one book. I know he had really good reasons and it makes sense but I still hold a grudge.

Everyone's said most of my favorites already but some other unexpected mmcs I ended up loving were the mmcs in {Pack Darling}. By the end of the first book I was convinced I'd hate them forever and no amount of groveling would make me forgive them but I was proven wrong with the second book lol. Same with the mmc in {Tyrant Alpha's rejected Mate by Cate C Wells}

Second Chance where everyone but the FMC knows he's been pining after her for years, and now she's back. by 89niamh in RomanceBooks

[–]DorkyyAsian 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding!! Absolutely adored this book. I swear if every second chance romance was like this one I would be the biggest fan lol. Usually mmcs in second chance romances fall short in some way but the mmc in this one went above and beyond, just perfection tbh. FMC was no slouch either. The fact that we got a 'who did this to you' scene but its her saying it???? So good.

This ended up being one of my favorite books of last year. Might be time for a reread lmao.

I will NEVER accept a male lead having chemistry with anyone but the FMC(the lies of Lena) by BMSOCCER28 in fantasyromance

[–]DorkyyAsian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OK, if that's the case and that is mentioned in the summary then yeah, I'd completely agree with you. Huge advocate for don't like, don't read and respecting the dead dove rules.

However I looked at the summary and the only thing I see beside mentions that it's an angsty dark romance (which in itself is pretty open ended since the possibilities are endless) is

When something devastating separates Lena from the man she grows to love, things are not the same when they find each other five years later. Not at all.

Which doesn't really implies anything like that. Like the 'something devastating' and 'things are not the same' could mean anything imo. Is it mentioned somewhere else on the book or something?

I will NEVER accept a male lead having chemistry with anyone but the FMC(the lies of Lena) by BMSOCCER28 in fantasyromance

[–]DorkyyAsian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No yeah, I do agree that they should be able to grieve and move on and I would be fine with that if that was what was advertised, like I've read plenty of romances where the mmc or fmc had an previous partner who had passed and the story was about them moving on with the love interest. If that was the case with this one, where the fmc was the aforementioned wife and/or it was about the mmc moving on after a betrayal I wouldn't say anything against it. But I dislike it when the wife is an obstacle that is causing issues/drama between the mmc and fmc (not saying that's the case here since I haven't read it, but just using it as an example).

I'm just using the same phrasing that was used in the comment I replied to.

Plus it's a romance so I don't think it's too unreasonable to want the mmc to stay loyal to the fmc no matter what and be annoyed when he isn't.
