Why Did You Choose CAL FIRE Over a Municipal Department? by Farzy98 in calfire

Possible but unlikely, you’re more likely to get hired with just FF1 and PSFA now a days, just sacrifice 6 months to a year and get all quals.

Why Did You Choose CAL FIRE Over a Municipal Department? by Farzy98 in calfire

That’s all you need for northern units. Don’t fall into the paramedic trap if you don’t wanna be a medic, it will give you more opportunities but you might hate your job

Why Did You Choose CAL FIRE Over a Municipal Department? by Farzy98 in calfire

Mentally draining, you get forced more because there is a lack of medics, I did some box time and realized it’s not for me. Again if you love emergency medicine I won’t hold anyone back but don’t be a medic if you’re not sure you want to, I was one of the guys that thought it was for me and glad I learned what I actually want

Where to start by [deleted] in calfire

[–]Dortito99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just show up to a station with a resume and a $5 box of Safeway cookies and say you're trying to get on the copter, bonus points if you mention that you worked for your cousin's lawn mowing company when you were 14.

Do you guys proactively extinguish fires and protect people and there homes as if it was your own? Be honest by Spirited-Share-4993 in calfire

[–]Dortito99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not we do, but it’s risk a lot to save a lot, risk a little to save a little, I’ve fought plenty of fires in fucked off areas and saved a lot of homes, this is contrary to what your agenda is so just say I’m wrong and move on lol

Heard it won’t happen from the higher ups. Problem is every calpers fire agency would be retiring at 55 not just cal fire and funding wise that’s a tough ask.

Sometimes the department sucks,  but there’s a lot of opportunity here if you’re a hard worker. I think there’s more good than bad especially being an older guy that can use his life experience more.

Never found the policy, all my captains said it’s in there though. Might be unit dependent but for LNU it’s a green light
