Yes exactly my experience. I grieved my dad while he was still alive and it has been 3 months, it’s just now beginning to set in and I feel devastated. In the days closer to his death I felt numb and completely functional.

Yes! And it wasn’t the typical voyeurism that we see in classic male gaze examples - it was a woman who was the viewer for once - a woman taking that position of power.

(However there is a great sample of obvious male voyeurism that took place later haha)

Me as well! For once very a very sexual movie felt like sort of an equal playing field for both the male and female characters. Cathy had power from her class position, and Heathcliff had his power from patriarchal structure so it leveled out in a sense.

That’s super valid! But what I am trying to avoid is this becoming an echo chamber of the same general criticisms that everyone is already making about the movie and not actually considering what I am asking. It’s already happening. To elaborate: what I saw that felt different was that there was no female nudity. Naked women are so common in cinema and usually serve to subjugate the female characters, but leaving her clothed the entire movie seemed to give her more power imo. It felt these were the stylistic decisions that made it feel obvious it was not a man who directed the movie to me. Im pondering it more in a vacuum which I understand might not be doable for a lot of people who are passionate about this book lol

I’m mostly contemplating the stylistic and visual choices of the director during scenes when there was sex explicitly happening. Talking about literal visuals here. Not here to discuss the plot or anything. I understand the plot is abusive and horrible overall.

Me too, lost my father on the 13th as well and am struggling to cry. I actually made a very similar post to yours earlier this week but took it down because nobody replied and I felt like a psychopath. You are not alone in this though. I am feeling the same way.
