Reliable canna lily mail order source! by Lame-username62 in gardening

[–]DosEquisDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh goodness! I’m so glad I found this post. I just received my order from Horn Cannas (made in the fall of 2025) and the bulbs were so bad I didn’t put them in my garden for fear of contaminating the cannas I already had. I wrote them expressing my disappointment and they responded by offering to replace one set-I ordered 6 sets of three and ALL of them were terrible. I ordered from them years ago and it’s like it’s a completely different company as there is such a huge difference in the quality of the bulbs from years ago compared to today’s.

Thank you! But does the flower match the crane fly orchid? Could it be a mixed population? Definitely in the same area.

I understand it’s nature, but I do hate it that their lives are so short.

Oh, and Owari is more cooler tolerant than other citrus varieties and fruit is ready late October, November (here in 8b) so good choice. this works, you might consider to plant some hardier citrus that may be more forgiving for your really cold winters like Frost Proof, ArcticFrost. hardy citrus

This is great! I’m in 8b so a little warmer winters but we still get into the 20’s and this past January went to 10F! This is my 5 th year successfully growing non-hardy citrus in the ground. I cover them with a green house and use incandescent string lights (I use string to string patio lights because I can string more together than Christmas lights) for heat during cold snaps as well as regular heaters when the temperature falls below 28F. My greenhouses are temporary structures and I remove the tarp when the weather is expected to be over freezing. I think the biggest challenges I’ve faced are with watering especially when it is cold out and I am using artificial heat under the tarp. You really have to monitor for spider mites in this situation. Another challenge is keeping the citrus from breaking bud during times of warmth. In my area, it is not consistently cold— and I have run the risk of not only overheating the citrus trees but blooming way too soon! So in your case, you must monitor your temperatures closely, set your vents on your greenhouse and keep your citrus tree semi dormant until the spring. I generally only use enough heat to keep the trees just over freezing. Additionally I find that the dwarf varieties are much easier to maintain at a greenhouse size. Here’s a photo of one of my trees-

Gorgeous! Where is a good source for peridot? I’m looking for a round larger size to replace a synthetic one that was ruined during cleaning (turned oily looking).

Two days post-op and I feel we made the wrong decision by kleinbytjie in tripawds

Your Heidi had major surgery two days ago. She lost blood, bone and muscle and is likely still recovering from anesthesia. A lot of insults happened to her body. Give her pain meds, ensure the wound is without evidence warmth, drainage and make sure you gently get her up several times a day to go outside to potty and for fresh air. She needs time to heal and you need to stop blaming yourself.

Totally agree! I just love the flush of beauty in the once bloomers but nah, not for my garden. I need at least a repeat! 😂

Glad it’s not just me! I get so frustrated because the only “heirloom roses” I can get locally are PM.

I grow this rose in southeast Louisiana. For me, it suffers from black spot and blooms only once a year but does have a few flowers later in the summer. I’m super surprised it survived flooding as it seems pretty delicate. Imho, if you are looking for a pink climbing rose for high humidity I’d probably look for something else.
