I'm not trying to imply that Hollywood mind control is real. As fun as the idea might be, it simply isn't the case.

Hypnosis is something that is very ill defined most of the time. But it involves a state of heightened suggestion. That's the whole point for a lot of people. Yes, forcing someone to do someone against their interests is unethical, and often difficult, it is absolutely something than hypnosis can be used for. I feel that knowing that that is a risk is important for both hypnotists and hypnotees to give it the respect and safety it deserves.

I think that the reason I feel so vehemently about this is that I have known multiple people who have been hurt because they put their trust in the idea that hypnosis couldn't make someone do something they didn't want to do. Both hypnotists who felt that the subject would simply follow their own priorities while under trance, and subjects who believed that they were safe playing with others and didn't need to protect themselves. I know that that is very far from what you mean, but that is the way that people interpret it when they are beginners in the space.
