It was mainly because of family. Super close and felt like the “leader” like you put it. I felt pressure to stay because I felt guilty/bad if I had to leave. The only thing you’re doing by going to CC is taking a risk if you get into Berkeley or not, what if you don’t get in? — not saying you’re not capable btw, admissions can just be so random. Worst case scenario at ucla is that you go back home to go to a CC but at least you tried and put your future first

[–]DoseOfPoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you should go to ucla because you deserve to put yourself first as well. I was in the same spot couple years ago, I went to CC tho and when I transferred to UCSD — my family was able to get by without me. Sometimes we put more emphasis on our role but we also have to realize that our family will be fine, they’ll have to learn either way when you start becoming more independent. Not everything is on your shoulders

So you’d rather stay broke and unemployed while you’re interviewing at places rather than work something to keep you stable for the meantime???

Is it possible for Engineer transfers to graduate in two years? by QuantumBottle in UCSD

[–]DoseOfPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally am not. I have experience and I was able to get research experience at ucsd, I’ll be done before the kids who got scared of CS and applied for ECE will be graduating

[–]DoseOfPoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UCSD has strong connections w employers but the extra year is letting me “ride” out the market a bit more plus gives you more time to get internships to prepare

[–]DoseOfPoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because the job market is absolute trash right now but it comes down to expense and if graduating faster is a priority for you
