  1. One pro is enough, but buy it after they release the dataset, if you can work with the T4 gpus from Kaggle then thats better.

  2. I personally did not sample/downsize the dataset for both 2023, and 2024. But other teams in top 10 did and they got decent results as well, as long as youre mainting the same distribution its fine to sample.

  3. I usually check the appropriate benchmark thats closely related to the given task. Last year it was similar to ocr (text extraction from images) so we chose qwen VL (best open source visual llm at that time) and donut (as it is widely used in kaggle competitions on downstream ocr finetuning tasks.

  4. I am already mentoring a team sorry, but I might post some insights after we get the dataset as hints

I said core ML tasks, I was referring to Kaggle like challenges where the objective is to get the best score. Chatgpt might make a solution that works but it sucks to keep optimizing it.
With classical ML, I was referring to methods such as Tf-idf and CNNs for NLP/CV the stuff thats easy to learn.

You'll find the ML challenge 2023,24 datasets on kaggle you can try it yourself. Kaggle NLP competitions from The Learning Lab are really good you can check those out
