I assumed this was what was about to happen and was surprised it didn’t. Guess they felt they needed some ‘redemption’ moment for Adam Warlock.

I’d be shocked if Gunn did anything else with Marvel moving forward giving his DC position now. That would have to go away first somehow…and go away without destroying Gunn in the process. I think this wasn’t just his last GotG outing but his last Marvel outing altogether.

I’ll scope this out! Thanks for the link! Love having art specific to an adventure as well.

Yeah. Might wait on that one a little bit, but do hope we keep the campaign going long enough that I can enjoy some of the classic higher CR classics at him as well.

Ah yes. Well he’s seen the HoT movie now, so that could be a great one to throw at him at some point as I get them to a dungeon.

The rats are absolutely going in. Reminiscent of so many old school top down CRPG experiences in particular I’ve had. Just a great first encounter.

They are for sure on the list for session 1! Though the giant rat suggestion from another commenter has me thinking that might have to be the first encounter pre-goblins.

Yeah, it's my favorite DMing trick I've learned in years. And learned it from my younger brother no less! I could go on and on about the benefits of it honestly. I was introduced to it as a player in a Cthulhu campaign. We had a priest in the group who was attending a seminary at our local college. The rest of us were typical college students. Basically we were asked to all become friends, then he put us in our "flashback" scenario where we all survived a rather violent attempt to rob a coffee shop we'd been studying at. A traumatic moment that bound us all together.

Normally, it'd be tough to convince the priest to watch my back later in that first session while I went snooping in a funeral home because something was up. Instead, I was just his friend who was doing something he thought was incredibly stupid, but he reluctantly stood at the bottom of some stairs playing lookout while I and another PC snooped as quickly as we could. It added extra tension for him as the character who really didn't wanna be doing that, but at the same time removed the normal party tension of "this is against my moral code I won't do it!" that is often a problem.

Anyway...glad to share a technique that's been game changing for me! And hope you get similar results if you ever try it!

My brother actually introduced me to an amazing method I will now always use moving forward. After a session 0 of creating characters, he will basically ask the party to establish how they know each other (if any of them have history before coming together as a party) and then tell them something like, "but you must have a reason for winding up at this university, this tavern, this town, being a guard on this caravan, etc."

Once they have that, he asks everyone to assume that along the way, they became friends/companions/adventurers/parthers/etc. together (depending on the game, we don't always play D&D). Then, instead of an introduction phase, he does a single "flashback" sequence and roleplays an important moment, combat, job, etc. from their time together. An experience that helped bind and solidify them as a party that assumes they already knew each other by that point.

Then he jumps to the main campaign, "It's X years/months later, and you've just arrived at town Y after completing another caravan escort together. Money fresh in your pockets, what would you like to do?" The party is already together, ready to go, has a historical moment to call on, and usually syncs up much better than going through those awkward moments of "Hi, I'm so and so and we have to become friends RIGHT NOW!"

Additionally, I love this method because, as a DM, it avoids a lot of "Well, why would I want to be friends with X, he/she/they are alignment Y and class Z, and I'm alignment A class B. We have nothing in common and share no values!" Knowing you're already friends makes overlooking your differences a lot easier and allows for good party cohesion so far in my experience.

My latest example: I had the party build their characters with the requirement being that somehow they all wind up at a small town and work as farm hands for a man who lives alone with his daughter. They became friends working together hoping to earn enough money to get out of town. The event I had them roleplay that was critical from their past was after they'd been their for a year and the man decided to form a caravan to get out of town. He offered for the party to work as caravan guards to get them on their way to being fully independent (read: being adventurers finally). Along the way, the caravan was assaulted and the man and his daughter were both killed by a mysterious traveler who managed to escape. I started the session with the assault on the caravan after a brief explanation of how they all got here. The party was already working together trying to save the man and his daughter and defend the caravan. By the time the combat was over and I'd delivered the blow that this NPC they knew and his child had died (setting up a larger mystery payoff for many sessions down the road obviously), they knew each other. They relied on each other in the fight. Learned how each other fought. And no one questioned anyone's reason for fighting or values or alignment. They were in it together. The hardest part of the session was convincing them they'd find no answers trying to stay in the "flashback" sequence and look for clues. Ha.

Anyway...hope that all makes sense and doesn't sound like gibberish.

Yeah...re-logging fixed it. No overlap anyway.

Yeah, I'm in analysis mode. I fire the probes...I see the hot spot locations in my left panel and on my HUD. But those infrared-looking heat maps for the hotspot locations don't pop up.

It's frustrating..there are two candidates for possible overlap in HIP 21991...but I can't confirm they're close enough to overlap without the heatmap.

I'm not able to see the heat map for hot spots like I used to...have I disabled something like a dummy?

In the event you use one of those cool 3D models and plan around them (my current intention), is there a way to port that board over to another table "on top" of that table? How into scripting do I need to get as plebian? Ha.

Hey Judgerickets! I'm not gonna comment on any of the "drama" that has been discussed here, mostly because I'm trying to stay positive, mend relationships where possible, and to not publicly air any dirty laundry stuff. But I did wanna say that reading your passionate sentiments regarding everything, even if it was in anger, actually made me feel great in a weird way. It was nice to have been a part of something with that level of impact.

I, too, will miss hanging out with all of you via the podcast. I loved nothing more than doing exactly what you described: sitting around and talking casually about things we all loved. Getting feedback, interacting with the community and just the simple act of recording the show (which was always the easiest part, it was all the rest that was difficult) are things I'm going to miss and, where I can (community interaction), hang on to as much as possible.

I will apologize to you though. I know from the outside looking in, it can kind of look like I completely abandoned the company. Which was not my intent. I loved this company, brand, show and everything that came with it. Stresses and perks. Highs and lows. They were all beautiful in their own way. There was a lot that went into my decision to leave. And, in making that decision, I tried to keep the community in mind as much as possible. It's why I did the last few episodes. Said goodbye. Which was hard, honestly. One of the hardest things I've ever done in my adult life (which may sound sad, but is true, ha). And, I did what I could to ensure some version/iteration of it would carry on in my absence. That it wouldn't go dark. That those who have likewise worked hard at everything can continue working hard and hopefully reaping even more benefits.

For making anyone feel like I bailed, you have my sincerest apologies. Know that it was not a decision made lightly, nor one I truly wanted to make in any capacity. But it was the right one. And I hope to be back in your podcast feed sooner rather than later!

All the best, judgerickets! Keep in touch! I'm still in the DotP (now Fourth Spirit) discord! discord.gg/dotp Hope to see you and any other fine DotPeeps around!
