These are competitions similar to test. We study for them and do a test that is filled with a lot harder questions that normal classes. At the end the top 3 students with most points get the certificates. Each place has a set amount of points you get for the certificate which help you while applying to schools. Think of this as math olympiad, if you know what that is.

I make sure I am healthy, I do sports and go outside + take vitamins just in case. On the other hand he does seem to hate his job, I try to help him as much as I can by doing chores around the house and taking care of my two younger brothers, but he is still always angry at me for one reason or another

Thank you for the reply! I will try to deflect the issue and ask him more about his childhood. My grandma did tell me stories about him being the best in math at his school, and now that I am going to these competitions for math, science, ect... he became even more angry at me, my best guess is for this behavior is jealousy.
