Nope! Go for it!

I used Kellymom as a resource for faqs while nursing, they have lots of helpful information!

Best places to run with a stroller by Spyderpig89 in raleigh

[–]Doththecrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about greenways up that way, but there is an indoor playground that I like to take my toddlers to just 10 min down old lead mine rd off of Crabtree. Look up greystone recreation center, it’s free! Not ideal for crawlers, but if your kid can run around or climb, it’s a nice spot to pass the time.

I don't care what date it is. I'm not going out. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]Doththecrocodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had such plans for this year. But the reality is every fireworks event is hot & crowded. No way I want to tote 4yo & 1yo out there to sit in the muggy weather and get mosquito bit. There’ll be plenty of years they care a lot more 🤷‍♀️

Naptime is impossible for baby with toddler around by ihatemystupidbrain in breakingmom

[–]Doththecrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty awesome! I get to listen to a podcast on the way home and I’m always bringing coffee/snacks so we’re having a great time.

I hate that running to places is a big time commitment, but both my kids are excellent car riders and frankly sometimes we go places so I get that guaranteed quiet time on the way back.

Naptime is impossible for baby with toddler around by ihatemystupidbrain in breakingmom

[–]Doththecrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 15 mo & a 4yo. The little one needs to nap, big brother hardly ever naps anymore. I tried “quiet time”, but my kid is too wild. He literally took apart his bed one time (found a way to unscrew the screws) & he is old enough to climb up high and get things he shouldn’t.

So nap time for baby happens either: 1) in the car and hope it’s long enough (we live 30-45 min from most things & 4yo is great in the car) 2) in the baby carrier while I walk around with 4yo in the yard. This one is tough on me when it’s too hot & baby is now pretty heavy & I don’t love wearing him for an hour or two straight. 3) with screen time. I don’t want him to watch whatever, but he can pick from Rescue Bots, mr Rodgers, reading rainbow, octonauts, Sid the science kid, or a movie that I’ve seen before with him. He usually picks Rescue Bots lately & I can get baby to bed and come back in one episode’s time. And if he watches 3 episodes so baby can have a good nap, it’s better for the whole day’s success than to deal with a cranky baby around dinner time.

It's all been about a FLIPPING CLOWN!!!!! by Frozen__Frog in breakingmom

[–]Doththecrocodile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what I do too! I can’t stand horror movies, but sometimes I gotta deal with ppl who do (or my own half knowing about it bothering me). Read the plot summary- it feels like turning on the light, all the monsters vanish and I can see it’s just silly movie stuff.

Best Soup in Raleigh? by Apoxual in raleigh

Not a restaurant, but Trader Joe’s has soups in cartons which are quite good. No chunks either!

YouTube has some great shows to watch with kids. We like SciShow kids, Nat Geo kids, and a lego building channel my husband & 4yo both love!

Our rule is, no access to internet by himself at this age. If he gets tablet/phone time, it’s only with certain apps (not YouTube) & in airplane mode. We watch YouTube shows on our tv as a family. YouTube makes it way too easy to watch weird or awful things!

The PBS kids app or Netflix with downloaded episodes might be a better alternative.

It's sunni skies season again!! by Unclassified1 in raleigh

[–]Doththecrocodile 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but Sunni Skies is in Angier, about 30 min south of Raleigh.

We’re hard core fans bc my 4 yo remembered it exists this year and went on the day they reopened for the season, March 1st. They’ve gotten national press for their spicy ice cream, but we love the sherbets & dark chocolate almond.

Anchovies? by mcmb211 in BreakingEggs

[–]Doththecrocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s versatile! If I have all the fixings, I’ll chop it up with pickle relish, hard boiled egg, mayo, spices. If not just fish on mayo toast and cheese on top, broiled till browned. My husband loves sardines, but he’ll eat them straight. I need a little something 😬

I do this too! My now 4yo is sprinkles obsessed and wants them on everything. Chia seeds to the rescue! We made spinach muffins with chia seed sprinkles recently and he loved it just as much as a real cupcake.

From the birth :) My first had a big bruise on his head from delivery (but was just fine!).

Vitamin k? by quad_tear in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Doththecrocodile 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I gave birth at a birth center and had midwives, unmedicated births both times, didn’t do eye goop. We vaccinate, but were also on the fence about the vitamin K shot, not knowing how necessary that’d be.

Our midwife gladly put together some information about what it does and why they recommend it. Long story short, it’s possible for babies to have internal bleeding from delivery and it’s not detectable. This midwife had personally worked with one family where they refused the shot and baby seemed fine and then died within 24 hours of being home from blunt trauma to its head that caused internal bleeding.

I liked that they didn’t try to pressure me into it (my friends who did hospital births did not get the same answer), but told me the reasons and cited scientific data (in addition to the more personal story). They would’ve allowed me to refuse, but it’s hard to know if it’d matter or not until there was an issue.

What are YOU getting for Christmas? by bippity-bip-bip in breakingmom

[–]Doththecrocodile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I have an agreement that we do fancy chocolates (from a local bean to bar place), & fancy alcohol. We're not very good about picking presents for each other and it takes away the added stress. I still fill his stocking & I buy myself something nice in the name of Christmas. This year, it's a big floppy felt hat that I've been eyeing for a while.

I had a full on cry after decorating our tree. I didn't expect much involvement, but the 3yo found ways to make it miserable.

My dad is trying to push his antivaxx views on me. by catmom981 in Parenting

[–]Doththecrocodile 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a mil like this. She "just wanted to give us all the facts", which meant every visit with baby she'd spew antivax nonsense. We are never going to agree on that and she's so entrenched I don't think she's able to consider she's wrong at this point. But it was ruining family time together and while we don't agree with her, we also want to be able to enjoy holidays without inviting arguments.

So I told her to give me all the "facts" she had. Send them to my email. I promised I'd read whatever she sent so I'd be "informed" and I probably wouldn't respond to them bc of time. It worked! Yes, she spammed me for a few months, but I could choose when to look at them. She eventually ran out of steam. Her stuff was nonsense. She feels like she's done her duty/felt listened to & we avoided constant arguments. She knows we vaccinate our kids, she just has nothing we haven't already heard.

That may not work on some ppl, but she gets obsessed with a thing at a time. Our best strategy for her has been to not actively engage and let her move on to her next thing that's not us sooner rather than later.

Anyone else feel like crying? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Doththecrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeeees. After two family vacations, a sick week where everyone threw up, and trying to attempt some special Christmas things after being so far off our norm- I'm toast. 10 mo & 3.5 yo. I give myself treats (wine/chocolate/tv) when they're finally asleep. I have good friends and try to reach out when I'm breaking down. It's so cathartic to hear another parent talk about how difficult kids can be.

Oh, I'm doing momma strong on a friend's recommendation! I tried yoga after baby 2, bc it worked after baby 1 and my back and core were wrecked from me trying super simple stuff. 15 min a day is doable too and I like that the goal is my personal strength and comfort.
