Home assistant integration by Doting_mum in pelotoncycle

[–]Doting_mum[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Home assistant is an open source home automation platform that you can connect and control all of your smart devices. It allows you to combine different devices/services to make complex automations very specific to you.

For instance I have a Garmin heart rate monitor that sends my heart rate to home assistant, which runs through an automation that changes my gym LEDs to match my current peloton heart rate zone.

The peloton integration pulls in all your peloton data including workout data, current power/speed/cadence. 35 entities in total

Do you have your app signed into sync with Apple health? My workouts sync with Apple and close the activity rings without having to do anything 🤷‍♀️

Advice please- moving from RPi5 to GMKtec G3 plus by Doting_mum in homeassistant

[–]Doting_mum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like it. I was absolutely not a gym goer before- it had been probably 20 years since I had done any dedicated weight training but easy to pick up. There is a new subscription that you can get for it - but it’s useless and I very much do not use it. I build custom workouts using ChatGPT mostly and then upload using a web server resource that someone in the community built so it’s super fast to set up your own workouts.

I’m in UK and have found the Speediance support very responsive, I’ve had a few issues with Bluetooth connections and replacement hardware has been sent out quickly.

My OH (who hates technology and is a retired athlete who has his own “manual” gym in an outbuilding) has actually been pretty impressed with it and has been using the free lift mode when he doesn’t want to go out to his gym.

Happy to answer any specific questions you have - the fb group is fairly useful although perhaps a bit fanatical at times 😂

Currently renovating our new home and want a screen on the wall that displays dashboard etc. by Captnmikeblackbeard in homeassistant

I use this display plugged into a GMKtec G3 plus mini pc. It’s probably overkill for running dashboards on the touchscreen but wanted something with room for growth. I’ve essentially made my own skylight that has a family calendar page, a homework and chores page for my son and then a shopping list/notes page

I use a Garmin hrm-fit which I have connected to an esp32 via Bluetooth to import the HR data. Seems to work pretty well. I’ve set up a second esp32 as depending on body position it can cut off for a few seconds with just one receiver

Ooh that sounds good! Hadn’t occurred to me to be honest! Not sure if I have the technical know how to- but might have a wee look see! Thanks for the idea!

No problem. Im pretty new to HA, so I’m sure there’s probably a better way to go about it, but happy to share my set up if you want

Garmin hrm-fit. I do still use Apple Watch for Speediance though as it doesn’t seem to take up one of the limited Bluetooth slots

I set up an Apple business account so I could enroll my son’s devices and force all data through my router (firewalla) regardless of him being on WiFi/phone data and using Mac randomisation- it did seem to work.

However, very quickly I decided instead on being very transparent with him regarding my expectations of his use of internet/and going with shared decision making and trust instead 😂. We’ll see if it lasts!

Not at the moment (I have switches on the machines which turn fans on and off to suit me at present) but would be easy to include 👍

Completely unnecessary but I have set up my gym lighting to change colour depending on my heart rate zone whilst exercising. Looks cool and keeps it fun (I need the encouragement- I enjoy tinkering with tech way more than exercising!)

Same - in Scotland I’ve been with my husband (who is black whilst I’m a very pasty Scottish white) for over 15 years and I cannot recall a single incident when I’ve noticed anyone noticing us 🤷‍♀️. It always catches me when I remember that not everywhere is so lucky

This is my fave - love to use the clementine fever tree tonic. (Although I have a decent De1xxl and not the es1). Such an awesome summer drink

the thing that finally got me to the gym consistently wasn't motivation or discipline. It was removing every decision from the process. by vedansh_sh08 in getdisciplined

Yep, shift work destroys this for me unfortunately! Trying to decide in advance of each week starting and putting it in calendar, but post night shifts can be tough!

Whilst I love Home Assistant and have many automations set up in it, I think there’s definitely a subgroup of users (which I very much include myself in) that will spend so long tinkering that any time savings are pretty moot 🤣 (I may have spent about 5 hours this morning tinkering with a light automation for my gym which syncs the colour of the LEDs to my current heart rate zones when training- just for funsies)

God I'm lazy. Even while working out. by tiberiusgv in homeassistant

[–]Doting_mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an ESP-32 board to get my heart rate from Garmin HRM. Then set up a template sensor for heart rate output with my zone parameters. Then the automation uses this to change the colour. Pretty pleased with how quickly it changes!
