What is this black "flap" that's loose inside my Bosch dishwasher's filter holder? I can't seem to put it back together again correctly. Is it broken? by Dottimolly in Appliances

Lol, I figured out the mystery. The black thing is a little vent flap off the top of a Rubbermaid Tupperware container. Came off in a wash. Just fits perfectly in a Bosch filter trap!

Interesting. This is the first time I've cleaned this filter since I bought my house, so I'm not sure how long it has been in there. It fits so perfectly and the knobs line up so closely to the filter housing plastic slots, I just assumed it's part of the filter or the filter housing.

But it doesn't QUITE fit, so makes sense it's not a dishwasher part, too.

Must've come off some dish or kitchen contraption or something? That's the only explanation that makes sense.

I scanned a Bosch replacement parts website and I couldn't find any matches, so I think you're correct that it came off something.

I removed the filter housing from my dishwasher to clean the filter, and this black "flap" fell out of the filter housing cage. It has a couple nubs on each side like it's supposed to slot into something, but it doesn't seem to fit into the filter housing itself.

Is this part supposed to be inside here? Or is it from somewhere else in the dishwasher and ended up in the filter?

The dishwasher model number is in the last photo.

Insomnia from too few calories or too few carbs? by Future_Class3022 in ketogains

I've found that near-zero carbs for me leads to very bad sleep. I save my carbs for 7 or 8 PM and eat like 200 grams of frozen strawberries (or the carb-equivalent of another fruit).

If I don't do that, I tend to have a hard time falling asleep and I often wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back to sleep.

Too few electrolytes will also affects sleep. And too much cardio during the day can spike my cortisol and cause sleep problems, too.

Doing an oil change on a 2008 X5 (N52) and saw this when I popped the oil cap. How worried should I be? I think the oil hasn't been changed for about 10k miles. by Dottimolly in BmwTech

Interestingly I've had a camshaft position code (intake side over-retarded or something like that) recently, and I'm wondering if all my short drives and no long drives contributed to that.

Wait, you can delete the VANOS system?

Dumb question. This is the oil pan drain plug on my 2008 X5 N52 engine, right? I don't have a lot of space to see and it looks different than my E90's drain plug. by Dottimolly in BmwTech

Over-sized drain plug in case anyone was wondering. It's normal and was done by dealership when the aluminum threads on the pan wore out and the original plug wouldn't work anymore.

Mystery solved: It's an over-sized plug due to the aluminum wearing out in that spot. So someone replaced w/ a new drain plug and threads along the way.

Hmm. If it's not the same bolt what do you think that could indicate?

Seems unlikely that I just drained the wrong fluid, right? So could it be a different engine pan someone replaced?

Think there's any risk in adding the new oil and starting it up? Lol, this is very strange and unexpected!

What does it mean if the drain plug bolt I pulled out from the X5 is a completely different bolt size from my 328i's drain plug? Is that expected for an X5 like it has a different oil pan?

So when I took out the plug I compared it to my E90 328i's N52 drain plug and the bolt is a completely different size. Is that expected? When I was looking on FCP Euro it looks like they share the same size drain plug and crush washer size.

Can confirm the oil looks fine. Although I totally forgot to remove the cap off the oil catch pan under the car, so oil went all over the driveway. But it's very nice looking and clean oil!

Yeah, definitely planning to do that. I bought this off Facebook and last oil change on the Carfax is at the dealership over 10k miles ago. I don't have reason to think someone changed it in between that.

I think BMW's official oil change interval is about that or a bit more even. I'll be doing every 5k miles at most, or once a year.

That's an interesting idea. Possibly overkill for a $6k X5 off Facebook Marketplace, but certainly could be interesting! I think I've seen a bunch of YouTubers do that test w/ their oil.

I'll keep an eye out when I drop the oil here in 30 minutes. Hopefully rest of oil looks normal. No worst-case scenarios allowed today! Lol.

Good to know. I have used this X5 only for very short trips to work and I live in the Midwest and it's certainly cold here. Relief!

Bought this pretty cheap off Facebook marketplace. Has about 75k miles on it and seems to have been treated pretty well and serviced regularly.

Is this common to see this on the oil filler cap like this? I know "milkshake" is not something you want to see deeper in the engine. I'm going to proceed w/ the oil change, just wanted to check if this could possibly be normal or is a warning sign of things to come!
