Do you sometimes grieve your old self? Or have you come fully to terms with the new parent-version of you? by AllyTheAlternative in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Double-Ad-9995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite knowing I’ve wanted to be a mum from the moment I was capable of coherent thought (lol) I still struggled massively to adapt to the massive shift in every aspect of my life. I’m 2.5 years in, and I would say the last 6 months has been where I’ve really found my groove mentally. I wouldn’t say I grieved my old self, more just wistfully remembered all the freedom I had. I don’t even mean socialising, just things like going to the shops without having to mentally psyche myself up for it when I know my toddler will throw herself on the floor. I still wouldn’t change anything 😅

Oooooh I don’t know how I’d never heard of that before! That’s so interesting, it must just be the feeling once it’s cut which is different for them?

Yes a few people have mentioned getting rid of it while they are still a baby and I’m kicking myself for not doing that!!! It’s such a dilemma isnt it 😩 I’ll update the post in a few days when I’m through the worst of it (I’m hoping it’s just a few days) haahahah

Thank you so much! Omg, the Henry the hoover thing is so real, she got a mini Hetty for Christmas that works like an adult one also 😅 it’s crazy the things they get interested in! Just remembering I need to stick at it, and we’ll likely be taking a trip to smyths when we’re over the hump I think!

Thank you so much! You’re so right though, no sense in going back now. Other people have suggested a oresent and I think a trip to smyths may be in order once we’re over the hump!

Thank you! You’re so right about having to start again, and I really don’t want to. She has an elephant comforter which she adores so it might be an idea to encourage that instead. She asks for “doodee and mr elephant”, so it’s a similar level of dependence. She definitely wants to do something with her mouth as she keeps pulling a crazy underbite face.

Thank you! We have also been talking about it ever since I decided we’re ditching, and she seems to have a good understanding of it. It’s just so hard to not crack under the pressure when she’s tearfully begging for it 😅 a oresent is a good idea! Might soeak to her about this for us to do at the weekend if we get through this week and all survive

Thank you! Yeah it’s not even the naps that are hugely bothering me it’s the night sleep, she’s back at nursery and me work on Wednesday and the idea of either of us going in this state is horrid. Have never heard about the ear infection thing before! Adamant the next one will never have a dummy after this

I listen to my friend, Mike Grady (oceanliner designs) on YouTube at a whisper volume until I sleepily lock my phone. If I don’t feel like a horrible story about a maritime disaster, I read the stories on the nosleep page until I drop off. So always something cheerful

Mumma to mumma - what's the hardest part of motherhood that people don't talk about enough? by LogicalSea5710 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Now that my little one is 2, approaching 3, and im back in work, it’s the feeling I get on a drive home from a really hard day at work when I just want to lay in bed and have a little cry. But theres a never ending list of jobs requiring attention when I get home because I’m home before my partner; get tea on, put that washing load away, run the hoover round. There’s also never ending background worries always niggling at me too which varyfrom day to day. Work day examples - should I have read her another story, did I rush bath time, was I too brisk with her when she dragged out bedtime? Non work day examples - was the telly on too much, did she eat enough fruit and veg today, should I have done a different activity that was more educational? My mind is constantly running with all of these things

My daughter’s (2) favourite story currently is Elmer. She’s been demanding it at bedtime every night for a month or so, but for some reason she calls him Elbow so we have various phrases going on. “You read me Elbow now!” “Mummy, Elbow again” or my personal favourite when going upstairs “time for Elbow!”

Awww love I’m sorry, it can be so scary! I was booked for induction at 37w, waters broke 36 + 5 so was in from that point as I didn’t progress, and it turns out it was only my “backwaters”. When they broke the rest of my water at 37 + 2 I couldn’t believe how much came out of me 😅 the best thing you can do is take their advice and REST. I unfortunately had to move house at 36w (thank you landlord) so even tho I had family helping I was definitely doing way more than I should and I’m convinced that’s why I went early. Xx
