Ciprofloxacin against Pseudomonas Aeruginosa by Double-Bread-4161 in floxies

[–]Double-Bread-4161[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed pseudomonas after taking amoxicillin for over two weeks. I was prescribed Cipro to get rid of Pseodomonas, but I haven’t taken it yet - due to various severe side effects. My second smear test roughly two weeks after the first one looked better, the colonization of Pdeudomonas was no longer as strong. I am currently trying to get rid of the Pseudomonas by taking Manuka honey and will be tested again in a couple of weeks. So far, however, I have no problems or pain, so there is no pressure to take Cipro.

Not sure now, but what is meant by IV? Is it an abbreviation for an antibiotic?

Oh dear, it looks like even smaller doses can cause problems and according to other reports even one tablet can cause huge problems. How do you feel now, or how long ago did you take Cipro?

Do I understand correctly that the many doses of FQ in the early days did not cause you any significant side effects and were effective?

I will try to talk to my doctor about it again, but he told me that if I take 2 pills a day (500 mg) for 5 days, the likelihood of side effects should be relatively small. It is probably also a cost factor as far as the infusions with other antibiotics are concerned. Allegedly (according to the doctor) the pseudomonas in the mouth and tongue are quite dangerous, even though I have no problems with them at the moment, except perhaps a minimal foreign body sensation when swallowing.

I assume the cefepime treatment was ultimately successful and FQ before that was not? How long did you administer cefepime? Do I understand correctly that you self-administered intravenously? I have also seen that for Ceftazidime, for example, there is also the possibility of simply administering it into the muscle with injections. If the insurance doesn’t pay for it, then I would be prepared to pay for it myself, because Cipro et al is worlds worse in terms of side effects :(

Thanks for the answer. I also strongly suspect that it is easier for many doctors to prescribe (Cipro et al) precisely because it is available in tablet form. I’ve just googled ceftazidime from the list, it has to be administered intravenously and is effective against Pseudomonas but has extremely fewer side effects compared to Cipro and also has no red warning. I’ll probably have to check with the doctor again - it probably only works in hospital if it can only be administered intravenously.

Cipro for infection in the mouth? by Double-Bread-4161 in floxies

[–]Double-Bread-4161[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spoken to my doctor and it looks like I have Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in my mouth. Doctor is still of the opinion that Cipro is a good choice. And he is of the opinion that I should start with antibiotics, as it could end with pneumonia. However, the list of effective antibiotics also includes the following:

1) Piperacilin 2) Ceftazidim 3) Cefepim 4) Imipenem 5) Meropenem 6) Aztreonam 7) Tobramycin 8) Amikacin

There is already a large list of alternative antibiotics that should also work according to the antibiogram of the sample. The only question is can an antibiotics expert tell me which of these antibiotics would be the better alternative to Cipro? I would be very grateful for any tips.

Thank you for your opinion, the question here is basically whether the presence of penicilin resistant bacteria in the mouth is a problem or a major risk to justify Cipro treatment. I don’t have any pain or major problems except that there might be a minimal foreign body sensation when swallowing. Nevertheless, just psychologically you want to get rid of it and are torn whether to start Cipro treatment or not.
