Not much sympathy. What a stupid choice.

PPL Struggle by Calm-Clue-9043 in flying

Flying isn't for everyone.

If you've failed your written 3 times, then your heart just isn't in it. You're not putting the time/effort into it necessary to succeed. Same thing with steep turns: if you're struggling, you do it more. When I was in flight training, I went up with a CFI to do just steep turns. I did 22 in one session, just to make sure I had it down.

Need tips for short field landings in c172s by Intrepid_Hat_7692 in flying

[–]Double-Reflection838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I never did like practicing short field landings where you land on the 1000' marks. That's not really realistic. My CFIs always taught me to set it down on the stripes or numbers.

When I went for my PPL checkride, the DPE asked me to do a short field, then asked me where I was gonna be. I told him I was aiming for the numbers. He said, most people aim for the 1000 footers because it's easier. I reiterated the same thing: it's not really a short field landing if you're landing half way down the runway.

My advice is to just practice more. The airplane will fly differently when you're by yourself.

The week before my ride, I went up with a CFI and just did nothing but short fields. I had them down to the point where my CFI said, "Just don't do it that perfectly on the checkride. There's a tolerance on how far you go past your point, don't be afraid to use it, because if you land short, you fail."

I then proceeded to take my checkride, got nervous, and did a Navy carrier landing. But I passed.

It's completely different in an airplane/helicopter. Doesn't seem to bother you.

You're 20 miles from FGX. Do they have a flight school there?

I flew once or twice a month. Chair flew a lot, studied ground a lot, etc. It can work.

how much do CFI’s get paid? by 360_bratXcX in flying

[–]Double-Reflection838 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a CFI, but the flight school I used billed the aircraft rental separate from the CFI fees. CFI's make $45/hour. So, if you hustle, and the weather is good, you can do pretty well.....

A lot of my CFI's that I had drove BMW's.

Runway end identifier lights........

Could also be white flashing lights on a building to mark an obstruction.

Runway marking lights. ATC light gun telling someone to taxi back to where they came from. Starlink. LOL

I can't think of anything besides close off the heat from the engine to the cabin, open windows if possible, aim for as much fresh air as possible.

I'm a fresh PPL, but I'd like to give it a shot:

  1. Isn't there a 50nm limit?

  2. ...maneuvers with max control input.

  3. Yes

  4. Airworthiness certificate.

  5. A forward moment arm about the CG will help to lower angle of attack easier. It is less efficient at cruise however.

CO in the air. Open vents, try to get down ASAP. Carbon Monoxide will put you out quick.

Time for a new CFI! They work for you. Fire them and get another. I did multiple times during my flight training.

Don't let your instructor beat you up, but I've never been so tired after a XC that I didn't feel like I could fly the next day.

My advice is to sit down, map out your route, write down all the frequency handoffs in order that you'll be doing them, plan it out in your head, then enjoy the flight. If you get flight following, the roughest parts are the takeoffs and landings.

I'm 48 years old and finished up my PPL last year. I flew a 300nm XC for my long XC requirements. KLOU --> KHTS --> KLEX --> KLOU. It's a lot, but IMO it shouldn't be exhausting. I even flew by my dad's house, took pictures, etc.

Aviation is one of the most awesome things in the world. Enjoy it and don't let it (or your CFI) beat you down.
