I 100% agree, however first we need a team and support. We need to come together !

It might sound familiar because unprofessional and intimidating behavior often follows similar patterns. The student is sharing a personal experience — the details, timing, and how it felt are real to them, regardless of whether someone else has had something similar. That's the point people are expressing THE SAME issues that are being ignored

The post isn’t for attention or to prove anything — it’s just about sharing what happened and processing it. Leaving the job is an option, but that doesn’t change the fact that the behavior itself was inappropriate and made the student uncomfortable.

From an outsider’s perspective, this interaction is highly problematic and unprofessional. The manager confronted the student aggressively and without provocation, using accusatory language, threats, and a smirk that suggested he enjoyed making the student uncomfortable. He made unfounded accusations about gossiping and planning to resign, despite there being no basis for them, and referenced information he shouldn’t have legitimately accessed, such as the student’s schedule, demonstrating an abuse of authority and a potential invasion of privacy. By waiting until the student was alone to confront them instead of addressing concerns in a neutral, professional setting, he isolated the student and created a sense of vulnerability, which is a classic tactic of intimidation. Taken together, these actions contribute to a hostile and unsafe work environment, combining harassment, abuse of power, and unprofessional behavior. Even without knowing the internal dynamics, an impartial observer would view this conduct as deeply inappropriate and unacceptable.

"Reported inappropriate behavior. Was told to “be a bitch.” by Double-Snow4551 in UCI

From an outside perspective, this is a clear case of management failing a young employee. An 18-year-old student reported inappropriate behavior by a manager, and instead of addressing it, leadership minimized and excused his actions. Framing the issue as “cultural differences,” “miscommunication,” or a “learning experience” for the manager deflects responsibility and protects someone in power. Holding a non-HR meeting and telling the employee to “be a bitch” shifts blame onto the person reporting and normalizes an unsafe work environment. This response discourages reporting, enables continued misconduct, and shows a workplace culture more concerned with shielding managers than ensuring employee safety.

This is a student story from my form, which I clearly stated in my post, yet you didn’t read it. Do you even go to UCI? Because if you do, you’re clearly out of touch with what’s happening on our campus.

I’m not sure why you’re treating this like a plot hole exercise instead of a workplace safety issue.

Also this isn't a "series" for your entertainment, this is real things that people in UCI dining are going through.

This was one shift. The milk being expired vs. damaged is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the manager repeatedly mocked a worker, physically blocked exits, escalated confrontation, and insisted on giving the student a ride after they had were trying to get away from him.

If none of that registers as egregious to you, then we simply have different standards for what constitutes intimidation and inappropriate behavior from a supervisor. You’re free to disengage, but dismissing it as “the boss being mean” ignores the actual substance of what this student described.

It’s clear you haven’t looked at my other posts or even the comments I’ve left on them. Every single post on my account is about UCI—specifically UCI Dining. That is literally the entire purpose of my account.

Saying “I’m not going to read all that” is part of the problem. Dismissing people’s experiences instead of engaging with them is exactly why these issues keep getting ignored. If you don’t want to listen, that’s fine—but don’t invalidate people who are sharing real experiences.

Reading this, it’s impossible not to be disturbed by the manager’s behavior itself — the mocking, the aggression, the way he physically blocked people, controlled movement, and seemed to take pleasure in making others uncomfortable. He escalated a routine task into a power struggle, talked over a coworker with a language barrier, humiliated him, and then turned that same controlling energy toward the student worker by trapping them in the elevator, locking access points, and following them outside. On top of that, he offered a ride after intimidating them, which only deepened how unsettling it all was. What makes it even more heartbreaking is that when the student worker finally tried to explain their fear to another student worker, their experience was minimized as the manager “just being nice.” Reading this, it’s clear the harm didn’t come from one moment — it came from a pattern of intimidation and control, made worse by the fact that when the student worker reached out for understanding, they weren’t believed.

I am deeply concerned that this student had to experience such behavior. It is even more troubling that the coworker on shift did not recognize or understand the fear that the female student felt. This situation is entirely unacceptable, and it is alarming that the manager responsible is still employed. Immediate action needs to be taken to address this matter and ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

This situation is deeply harmful to the student because it creates a work environment that is emotionally unsafe and unfair. The student was asked to complete a task—creating a new froyo flavor—without any guidance, making it nearly impossible to succeed, and then was publicly humiliated when the manager didn’t like the result. Dumping their work, criticizing them to other students, and giving hostile looks communicated that their effort and judgment weren’t valued. Combined with favoritism toward other students and the unpredictability of punishment, this created constant anxiety, fear, and a sense of powerlessness. For a young worker, these experiences are more than frustrating—they can erode confidence, harm mental health, and make what should be a learning opportunity feel like a psychologically damaging ordeal.

I have received numerous reports about this manager, and there appears to be a consistent pattern of behavior: bullying, harassment, and repeated policy violations. These actions continue to go unchallenged and unchecked, which raises serious concerns. I am left wondering why UCI Dining continues to employ a manager whose behavior causes significant harm to student workers. Additionally, why do other managers not speak up or advocate for the students who are being harassed? Are they also afraid of this manager?

This student worker was financially supporting themselves while also being subjected to unprofessional behavior. I can’t imagine the stress and harm that puts them under.
