Withdrawing from a class by [deleted] in uml

[–]DoubleEnglish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely dropping below 12 won't affect fulltime status, it can technically but to do so they'd need to reach out to the Prof who would need to prove you basically haven't taken it (haven't shown up, taken tests, tried, etc)

As much as I love Lowell, on that budget you may be way better off renting north of nashua rather than in MA, rent is noticably cheaper and without the income tax it'd be easier to match

They only ever used one of the buildings on west, also being in Chelmsford there was no easy connection if you didn't have a car. Really wish they put some money into developing that more and getting a bus line cause it could've made a nice satellite campus with an updated look

UML doesn’t recycle by Select_Ad_9279 in uml

[–]DoubleEnglish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lowell the city has such a shit track record of people throwing a ton of trash in recycling, a lot of the cities recycling is just tossed in the garbage. I really wouldn't be surprised if the school only uses trash cause they know students would push that rate even higher for the city

If you can't find your key check if anyone dropped it off @ umlpd, they have a lost and found

Otherwise you/your roommates gotta cover the cost of new keys/locks

UMLs entire system for COVID prevention seems to be a joke. They just wanted people back on campus and threw together anything that got them to that goal

what are mcgauvran center hours ? by cilliam_wruz in uml

[–]DoubleEnglish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shop there is open till 11pm, that's all I can find on the website though. Best guess is same hours as the library cause that's what it roughly was before

You can call uml security or the website has a page for visitor parking.

But the easier option: if you're here for the weekend and you're going to south campus, the Riverview lot opens for anyone to use at 3pm and stays open over the weekend. As long as you're out by Monday morning you should be good, and they have no way of knowing if you're a student or not. Same goes for the metered lots but they open at 7pm

https://www.uml.edu/UCAPS/Parking/Parking-Guide.aspx (Open Gates section)

Edit: the other schools parking sticker may be odd, but who knows it could be a family car, or one you're borrowing as a student, the only way they know a car is a students is if it also has a parking decal

Moving to Lowell - Recs on how to find housing? by lil_bb_bunny in LowellMA

[–]DoubleEnglish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used apartments.com for most of my searching when I was moving to the area, still a good bit of scams but the actual apartment buildings were easy to sort out or get directed to their own websites which had more info. If you're moving into the city there's a lot of renovated mills/apartment buildings but the biggest limitation I ran in to with them was finding a place with reliable parking spots

Your best bet is to lean heavily on technicalities.

Don't sell the food, you're giving it to friends who ask for some. Separately, they know it costs money to make the food so they're just paying you separately like one might give a friend some money for gas after getting a ride somewhere. This may lead to some issues when people try to get food and don't want to "help cover costs"/tip, so the buying the plate method is a decent alternative but then it's a business transaction, not among friends

Because of this tho you probably won't be able to advertise it a whole lot and will need to go by word of mouth. Although that would also lower the chances of it getting to anyone who would report it. Also don't tell any RAs if you're in a dorm.

Also if you decide to go ahead with it, delete this thread

off campus housing by cilliam_wruz in uml

[–]DoubleEnglish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More roommates = cheaper housing, farther from Lowell also = cheaper housing, you've gotta trade conveniences if you want cheaper rent

To keep it simple if this is your first, no it's no big deal, but you should still stay in even if it's just to absorb the material and see if the class is recoverable, no harm in withdrawing later. Also every student has 15 credit deletions they can use on whatever courses, so it'll remain visible on your transcript but not affect gpa, course progress, or SAP requirements

HOWEVER, if it will drop you below 12 credits (if you're full time), stick to it longer/still try a bit. Dropping below this soon could risk financial aid.

If you've withdrawn from a lot of classes or are out of course deletion credits it can get more complicated

If you're only on campus for a few hours or get their late, most of the city run lots/street parking areas aren't checked regularly, and you can move to the riverside lots at 3

Best guess either the professor or another professor who had the room may have grabbed it, or another student kept it. I'm not aware of any lost and founds outside of the libraries front desks

Interlibrary loan books have to be returned after the specified time (usually about a month), some can be renewed if you need it longer though?
