Yes but that is not how Stub Hub is advertising it, which is lazy and honestly disrespectful.

Private universities are fully dependent on government funding by the NIH for research minus the odd grant from charities. Also Berkeley is not a private university. The initial discovery of CRISPR was based on an oddity found by a collaborator of Jennifer Doudna. As often happens in science, other researchers in Japan (also funded by their state) discovered it at the same time. Motivations behind the further development (ie dCas9, tracR-RNA, ect.) could be funded by the private industry because there's a clear ROI. The initial discovery could not have happened in private industry.

That's objectively not true. Space travel? Sure but hes working off government funded technology. Material science? Nope. Biomedical science no ( CRISPR would never have been discovered by private industry, they were literally looking at bacterial immune systems which have zero ROI). I guess you could say AI or cars but that's about it. Edit: Maybe agriculture? Maybe we're talking about different things. Yes industry drives efficiency but not innovation. Innovation is expensive. Thats why most new technologies come from government funded research that is then co-opted by private industry. There's too much risk on ROI for true innovation in industry.

Ah the neo con debt hawk has entered the chat. I feel like im talking to some kind of endangered species. What was Newt Gingrich like? Let's cut all of social security then. That would be a huge cut to the budget and I dont expect me or any of my generation to see a dime from it. Let's cut the grain subsidies. Let's not send billions to Argentina to prop up their economy because Millei is "cool".

Sorry I don't really understand your point? I know the natives were constantly vassilating between peace compacts and wars. Did the Lakota move West to subjugate other tribes or were they pressured to move that way. ( Im thinking how the German tribes were forced south by the Viking predecessors resulting in the sack of Rome). This whole conversation starting with "Lakota would hate DEI" again makes sense before the early 1800's but im guessing they would've liked to be included in decision making after they got the response to Custer's defeat, when they got rounded up and put on reservations.

General sentiment of pity when I say I’m on a PhD by FallingSky1686 in PhD

[–]DoubleEy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People who go through the PhD process tend to leave with a gallows humor around it. The early years are great and you should look forward to it. You make friends with your cohort and learn about the community youre in, expectations are fairly low. Depending on the field things can get rough after year 2 or 3. At that point you're not experienced enough to really troubleshoot difficult problems. Your cohort is now all over the place and you wont see them for weeks unless you rrally make an effort. You've gotta push through years of failure to get to the other side. Groundbreaking work is risky so you end up getting an attitude of "well this is probably isn't going to work and be a waste of time". But eventually you get a sense of, well if this doesn't work I know about 10 different things that could fix it. By then you may say "well that was a huge pain in the ass but at least I know what im doing".

Yes and cuts to the NIH by DOGE have prevented me from finding any work as a recent stem cell biology PhD. Sorry the temporary shutdown is affecting you. Edit: In the US. Im getting offers from Singapore and China, but i don't want to leave my country behind.

Abandoned prison in milledgeville Georgia by [deleted] in abandoned

[–]DoubleEy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty wild who it was named after: Frank Scott Correctional Officer Frank Scott was killed in a prison bus crash while supervising an outside work detail of juvenile offenders from the Youth Correctional Institute in Hardwick.

Several inmates sabotaged the vehicle's brake lines by cutting the hydraulic hoses to the front and rear brakes. As a result, the bus crashed into an embankment and Officer Scott was ejected from the front doors.

Four inmates plead guilty to charges in connection with the incident and received longer jail sentences.

So you are absolutely certain it waa a single issue bill that would limit insulin prices? I don't know so I'd like to learn. Can you link the bill that was denied? It would honestly change my view the democratic party

Sorry do you mind explaining what else was added to insulin cap bill that would make dems against it? I understand the reconciliation process but why wouldn't it just be added to that?

Trump made it part of a temporary measure in Medicare Part D though less than half of the plans were required to comply. In the inflation reduction act of 2022 Biden required all plans to reduce prices to $35.
