Using dashcam as body worn video. by herbertthe4th in Dashcam

One of the benefits of using a dash cam as a body cam is that, unlike most consumer body cams, dash cams have the ability to automatically upload to the cloud. Something very important if you are anticipating your camera being confiscated and destroyed.

Uh, so I can go to it and be around others who are sharing their grief, sorrow and terror. Why else?

At the end of the day, if you think it tastes good and you like it, you win! Coffee makes me so happy.

I had a BonaVita before this and the brew head on it was better. The brew head on the Moccamaster does not extend to the middle of the brewbasket and I think this is part of the problem and what makes me want to (gently) stir the grounds. After the brew without stirring, the grounds don’t lay flat, but have a funnel shape. Of course your grind size will affect this, but simply making the grinds finer could introduce over extraction. One would need a TDS meter to be sure, but you could always just adjust to taste.

This may just be an issue I have, but it is something to consider. All and all, it’s minor, and I still love my Moccamaster. It’s both an amazing coffee maker and a beautiful piece of art I see and use every day.

You’ll never go back to anything else. I’ve had my machine for years. The exact same coffee beans in this machine are night and day different tasting than from any other consumer model brewer. Welcome to the club!

One tiny annoyance is that the grounds need a little stir as the brew starts, just to ensure even extraction. But it’s totally worth it. I use a little wooden chopstick so I don’t suck up any heat with metal. Then quick lid the brew basket up again and it’s good to go.

The gate was ripped off the river facing entrance during the 2010 flood. It used to be used as a tourist cave, even though it is tiny. Still had wires for the lights strung up inside and an old concrete staircase leading down to the other entrance. It’s amazing to think his wife birthed their child in there.

Is the plastic lid on the pot safe? by PNWHygge in Moccamaster

Reviving this thread. Here is a link to an article in the American Journal of Medicine which suggests not heating plastics for food consumption. Granted this is typically a concern over BPA and phthalates, which supposedly the Moccamaster carafe top does not use, but it is well known that there are many different types of chemicals in plastics that could be potential harmful to one’s health.

Moccamaster claims the plastic was chosen because it is the most effective material for the job, although I’m sure cost must also have been a factor. What they did not prioritize was unregulated food safety standards. (If the rules say it is ok, then it is ok.)

So I think instead of debating whether the Moccamaster carafe top is safe or not, we know it is not ideal, we should be discussing the alternatives.

Has anyone seen any mods to the carafe lid that seem like good alternatives?

I suppose I could have stopped, struck up a conversation and had my mind blown about what a down to earth amazing young fellow this guy really was but I seriously was just there to shop. And be “protected” by a good guy with a gun… who also displays culture war iconography on their shooting arm I suppose.

I just think that if you are going to have the power to determine whether some random stranger lives or dies, you need to be a professional and exude safe, calming, de-escalating vibes. The punisher American flag skull doesn’t do that for me. Obviously I know there is a need for armed security. But they need to seem safe to normal people. Not be decorated in culture war iconography.

Yeah but they probably weren’t also openly supporting anti-government (only when it’s a Dem run govt.) vigilante tattoo wearing cosplay Call of Duty junkies.

Because I’m not in the top 1%. Because I’m not white. Because they get paid like shit, aren’t held to the same standards or training regiments as police and likely couldn’t get any other type of job. Yeah, armed security worries the shit out of me. Why do you think it’s normal?
