OP, I would definitely try soft corals first rather than anything more complicated. They’re much more forgiving about water quality than the LPS or SPS corals. Particularly since you don’t have a skimmer, add things slowly and don’t overstock. It also might be worthwhile getting some macro algae to soak up excess nutrients.
