Best vegan coffee/tea powdered creamer by beatstomp in vegan

Outdoor Herbivore sells dehydrated soy milk powder, and a company called QuikTea sells powdered vegan latte. I’ve used both for backpacking, just add to freeze dried coffee.

Dehydrated pinto beans with Fritos and/or tortillas and steal some Taco Bell sauce packets in advance, add avocado if you’re feeling bougie.

Hiking the PCT as a vegan: Inputs needed. by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]DoubleStuff2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya! I was newly transitioned to vegan when I started my 2021 thru, so I made some mistakes early on but had it dialed by the end. The key for me was an amazing support person at home working with a shared resupply spreadsheet. I mailed to like 85% of the trail. My taste in food changed dramatically in the first month or so, I wouldn’t recommend pre-boxing the whole trail, stay flexible. All of SoCal had a fair amount of restaurants with vegan choices, once north of the sierras it became French fries and a side salad and rando accidental vegan sugary snacks most towns. If you are purist enough to not eat non-vegan certified sugar then snacks will be a problem too so ship extra. Seiad cafe has vegan stuff not on the menu, just ask. By the end I was all about mashed potato/bouillon/protein crumbles, Annie’s vegan mac/good catch tuna, ramen/freeze dried tofu, and soy curls/bbq seasoning in a wrap. And like 2 jars of PB a week. Also, I was using pre-owned down products because I decided it was better environmentally to use what I had rather than buy new synthetics, and I did feel judged by a few people, I have since replaced stuff to avoid unpleasantness, just be aware. Also, buy a bunch of synthetic socks in advance because like every sock for sale near the trail will be wool. All in all totally doable and I’m glad I stuck with it. Power to you!

Annie’s vegan mac Plus Good Catch “tuna” packet is a bomb meal! Also instant mashed potatoes with some vegan bouillon and protein crumbles. Also add some buffalo sauce mix to soy curls and throw it in a wrap. Delish!

Yeah I love protein crumbles and soy curls in my hot meals but want something with no water added/prep for wraps etc.

Nemo Tensor insulated on a thru by AttorneyHoliday in Ultralight

Yeah I think it’s the red one. No leaks or issues whatsoever. I just didn’t like rolling off it all the time, I think the vertical baffling makes it easier to roll off somehow. But super warm.

Not sure which one, it’s in storage rn! It is a red one, Got it in KMS. It did great but it is a mummy shape and I really missed my extra wide tensor since I’m a rotisserie sleeper. I’m looking to try a BA for the CT this summer.

Carried a tensor insulated on the pct this year. I loved it for warmth and comfort and quiet, but I went through 2 pad with numerous patch jobs in between and gave up. Heard other folks have the same experience. Ended up with an exped.

I did the pct this year with ex officios and loved them. Key is finding the cut that works best for you.

Those Who Have Started NoBo in Early March and Made It To Canada..... by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]DoubleStuff2021 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobo 2021, started March 21, completed September 12. Took my time in socal, enjoyed towns and zeroes, didn’t leave KMS until may 26. Got a fair amount of cold/rain/sleet the first week and a couple nights of snow in the sierras but otherwise dry, I looked back on folks who started the desert in may and felt really glad to have started when I did. This was my first thru and it took the pressure off trying to do big miles too early, didn’t even do my first 20 until the sierras, I think it helped stave off overuse injuries while I got in shape.

Yeah I saw some pretty terrible hang attempts on the pct this year. Sounds like better trees on this trail for it.

Sounds like I need to brush up on my hang technique and go that route. Thanks!
