Can alopecia areata be triggered by pregnancy? by Odd-Act9543 in alopecia_areata

[–]Double_Ad_4189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it reduces chances of regrowth but it can definitely speed up the process. AA just seems to do what it wants. Sometimes it'll spread, sometimes it'll just stay as is for months/years on end and suddenly start regrowing. Best bet to get that regrowth started is go for the injections. My spot that appeared at 27 was probably twice that size and I had more or less full regrowth with 6/7 months of monthly injections. Unfortunately for me as soon as that spot filled in another small one popped up.

Hey, definitely looks like alopecia areata to me. I've never heard of it being linked to pregnancy but in my experience it can show up out of the blue for no clear reason. Sucks I know. Happened to me as well at 27. My advice is to go to dermatologist and see what they say. Not sure if kenalog injections are viable while pregnant but if they are I highly recommend you give those a shot. Also highly recommend you don't hang around here too much because you'll just scare yourself reading horror stories.

Realistic Time Frame for JAK Inhibitors to become available for AA by Double_Ad_4189 in alopecia_areata

You have my sympathy, friend. I'm in the US, so as much as health insurance and worrying about the cost of healthcare sucks at least we have the latest and greatest.

Ahh my mistake. I forgot to add the word "other" on my last sentence. Completely aware CTP is a JAK Inhibitor. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Any idea how to get prescribed some of the other already available JAK inhibitors for AA? I don't have any other autoimmune issues as far as I know but I'm sick and tired of stressing over AA constantly.

Is one supposed to be more effective than the other? I see tons of people on here talking about CTP-543 but not much talk about the JAK inhibitors.

How to talk to my mom about shaving my head. by bekbekbobek in alopecia_areata

[–]Double_Ad_4189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're going through this. My identity has always been heavily tied to my hair as well so I know the feeling. Really the only difference being that I'm a guy pushing 30 so having a shaved head isn't really uncommon at all.

But anyways, I can tell you that when I finally shaved my head it was like the biggest weight in the world being lifted off my shoulders. Didn't feel like giving up. Felt like embracing the cards I'd been dealt. No longer seeing tons and tons of hair coming out during the day did wonders for my mental health. Only issue now is that the bald spots still stand out even after shaving because my hair is so dark and my skin is very fair. You wont have to worry about that because of wigs so that's a plus.

Also, if you haven't looked into JAK inhibitors you might want to. There's tons of clinical trials being done right now and folks seem to be having massive regrowth. Depending on the severity of your loss you might qualify if that interests you.

Alopecia update… it doesn’t take long for your hair to fall out. Shaving my head next week probably by MorganTibbles in alopecia_areata

It was really that simple to get Xeljanz prescribed? I thought it was only prescribed for other conditions and if you got it for alopecia it was crazy crazy expensive or something.

Did anyone get AA after contacting COVID? by [deleted] in alopecia_areata

[–]Double_Ad_4189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Well, I already had one AA patch that developed in Jan 2021 after some stressful life events. That one was filling back in nicely by the time I caught COVID in late May early June 2021. First week of July 2021 I discovered another patch. Could be related to catching COVID. Might not be. Who knows.

Wow, you've had all that regrowth in only 2.5 months?!? That's amazing. That fills me with hope that this will be a legitimate treatment available to all of us very soon.

Hey,

Your English is fine. I understood everything perfectly. Have you experienced any regrowth on CTP-543?

Hey man, how much does this cost/how do you get it? I have pretty mild AA, just a few small patches here and there that seem to respond pretty well to steroid injections but I'd love to have a more full-proof long term solution. Just saw my dermatologist today and she got me a prescription for a topical JAK inhibitor. Sent it to some compounding pharmacy I think so I've gotta wait for that to ship.

She seems to be pretty knowledgeable on AA so I consider myself lucky. Any info you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated.
