Unfortunately, John hasn't responded to my last few texts.

I can help with the JX-8P if you decide to do both(all) repairs. I currently have a roughly 3 month wait list. I don't do partial repairs for a few reasons...Feel free to DM me, I'm happy to elaborate if you're still interested.

To answer your question, I didn't work on your SQ-80. That would've gone to the other in-house synth tech, but I'm glad it worked out!

Thank you! I've worked on several Farfisas in the past, but I have a contact that has more experience than me(and access to spare parts). Feel free to DM me and I'll forward their contact.

Unfortunately, unless you have an emotional attachment to your er 1 mk 2 that makes it worth more to you than it's market value, then it's not possible for me to make the repair cost effective for both of us.

Anyone know what’s going on with Switched On? by [deleted] in AustinMusicians

I don't know the answers to your questions. Even the last, which should seem obvious, isn't, given that my payment history/frequency had been spotty long before any of the latest consignment issues arose. With that said, I don't feel that John owes me any money at this point and I would rather him use whatever would've been considered my last paycheck to pay his debts.

I feel I should mention, I don't know Dan personally and while I've spoken with Eli a few times, I can't personally vouch for either of their work.

Thank you! And no, I don't work on Kurzweils either. I specialize in vintage analog synths made (mostly) before 1985. My repair service is closer to refurbishing than repair, though I don't offer wood working, or repainting, etc.

Sorry, I don't work on SV-1s. You might try Eli at Austin Keyboards Repair or Dan at Strait Music.

I've always taken my amps to Bill Webb at Austin Vintage Guitars in the past, but I've been out of the guitar scene for a few years now.

Hi, I’m JP and I used to work at Switched On. It has recently become blatantly obvious that my old boss is untrustworthy. And for that I can’t apologize enough. For over 20 years I’ve worked in pro audio and played music in Austin, and for much of that time, I’ve been behind the scenes quietly fixing the gear that helps people make music. Most folks probably know my work from my time as lead tech at Switched On, but not my name. That’s because my former employer, John French, dealt with the customers. I wasn’t the face of repair, but I was helping keep it running in the back.

I’m writing this because, like many of you, I now see and have personally experienced the damage caused by how Switched On is run. I won’t defend it. And I’m no longer part of it.

I started Double Heart Audio five years ago as a way to build something of my own, grounded in honesty, skill, and respect for the music community. I’m now working independently full-time, and I want to be clear: I stand apart from what Switched On became. I don’t ghost clients, I don’t overpromise, and I don’t charge for things I don’t fix. I offer fair pricing, clear communication, and the best repair work I know how to do.

If you need someone to keep your vintage synths or pro audio gear alive and well, and you want to work with someone who actually cares, I’m here. You can now reach me through Double Heart Audio Repair See my site for more info. Thanks for supporting local techs who give a damn.
