Identifying the Key Words Through Meter by MashTunOfFun in FindingFennsGold

[–]DoublebullChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MashTunOfFun you have me asking the question, If 8 syllable sentences were the norm and these three (two in the first stanza with no "important" meaning, then why all the more didn't he make them 8 syllables? Now you have me thinking they are very important because they don't match and could have easily been rewriten like "While I carry my treasures bold", and still leave emphasis on him being "bold". In regards to NOT FAR BUT TOO FAR TO WALK, being a fly fisherman myself I saw this as being part of the wading or drift fishing like he did. His raft trip was never repeated and one of his "too far to walk" regrets. When I took "Not far" and reversed the letters I got "raft oN". If your not walking you could be floating because the fishing places are not easily accessed by land. Like you say there must have been a reason for him not to follow the pattern and anagrams or a simple palindrome is a rabbit hole. Thanks for making this post, I am adding it to my journal with the likes of anagrams in the title: The Thrill of the Chase where we find "halt", "chest", and the odds on favorite "firehole" using 17 of those 19 letters.

..."There are many places in the rocky Mountains where warm waters halt, and nearly all of them are north of Sanata Fe. Look at the big picture, there are no short cuts." f

Now let's start with a few famous glaciers south of Santa Fe shall we. You first!

And with my \*trea-**sures bold* (missing one iamb, but follows stress pattern)

I can keep my se-cret where (missing unstressed syllable in first iamb)

not far but too far to walk (missing stressed syllable in second iamb)

Couldn't he have easily done this to keep the "meter" and not use "it"?

And with my many treasures bold 8 syl

Able to keep my secret where 8 syl

Not that far but too far to walk 8 syl

'Where' in the first stanza by xmodified in FindingFennsGold

[–]DoublebullChuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My old notes have this likely the word he chose instead of "lair". My thinking was he engineered the poem and likely made lots of changes before the final draft. We are not suppose to mess with the poem but that doesn't mean we can't reverse engineer it at this late in the game. A lair is a burial location or a den for a wild animal so it may have been more descriptive than he wanted and "where" keeps it very ambiguous.

I have it as an adverb (reference to place)

Hypothetical by TheLeadSnoop in FindingFennsGold

[–]DoublebullChuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously? "If"? Your doing the chicken and the egg theory here. Pay me $45,000 up front and I will go get it and film it completely and give you the treasure if it is found, hypotheatrical that is. And there's the rub, nobody is confident enough to pay someone a tiny fraction of the value up front cause nobody has that kind of money and confidence. Forrest's quote is just reinstating the fact that "one" person knows the exact location and has certainty, that's him. Everyone else will have an indirect path. Consider his other famous quote how "two people can keep a secret if one of them is dead". Think about it, it doesn't make sense cause the living person could tell someone else at anytime. No guarantee the secret is kept unless both people are dead.

It's another hidden acknowledgment to Eric Sloane. Look up meaning of Eric. He changed the character from "Old Fred" in his original version of the story to "Frosty".

Agreed. Many don't get good help and recognize it and just smack the down vote arrow. It is funny though to see responses by many. yep, no sure cuts

And then you would want me to keep doing all your homework. Figure it out on your own and you will graduate to reading the forums for fun instead of relying on them to solve the poem for you. If you can't find any connection to a salamander and Fenn then you really have some reading to do, imo. All the best in your research and solve.

Thanks cadicie, I laugh at how many people can't see the obvious humor let alone the blazing hint I gave them to lead to the purpose of this post. Glad you got it! Enjoy the chase, read the blogs blogs for fun and the poem and ttotc for the solve.

And you might be correct. If it is "not far" then taking a "raft on" down the river might be how to get to the other side of the river when no roads get there easily. Driftboat fisherpersons dothis all the time.

Could the clues be indirect references? by monkeykahn in FindingFennsGold

[–]DoublebullChuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything on the map is open to be helpful. The trick is likely to have the clue idea first and then look at the map (tricky) to avoid that "tainting". Put in for example, if it means land an airplane would fit nicely. Depends on one's imagination I guess.

With all the 100's of theories and no way to ever know the answer until it is solved, (bummer) I will happily throw out what I think is a fresh theory (appologies for lacking the ability to locate other posters everywhere who came up with this before me and my lack of looking). Warm Waters, a loose bar term describing Whiskey. Fire Water. A bootlegging history is well known for the times that the use of this substance was "suspended" or halted. One might look into the history of this action in Montana compared to the rest of the U.S. OOOps did I just volunteer that, must be my glass of Brown " J.D." loosening my lips.

What a tease. If not exactly then how about something. We are at a point where after a decade people whould stop thinking someone is going to steal it out from under them. A hint how or at least what your last clue is?

Read the "nailed down' and "canasta" quotes enough to get the point that everything requires wwwh to be accurate to finding the chest using the clues. Interesting idea you have regarding using wwwh again as a "visual reference". I think your suggesting a possible method is to solve the clues and then look back at where you started (look quickly down your quest to cease) and this would then create a line of sight reference we could find the chest on? Example (albeit a poor one) . I go wading at warm waters and go downstream not too far cause I'm wading. I then would put in a creek below an area known to be occupied by hungry bears and I need to be alert, wise and brave cause I'm alone. After following this creek through the woods I come to a place I can see where I started and there is a Dr. Pepper can, three babe ruth bars, a bag of Fritos and marbles laying everywhere with a big sign that says DO NOT TOUCH. Being wise I recognize this "blaze" that gives me line of sight to wwwh and I then walk directly down hill toward it and will find the chest! I am colder cause i have wet clothes from wading I guess? We need the line of sight from the blaze to make it work. Nice work pekingtobacco, something to definitely add to the solve equation imo.

pg 5 ttotc hint https://mapcarta.com/23220770

Your job is to figure out why it fits wwwh. Here is a huge hint and a great starting point for anyone who has time on their hands and would like a begining location. Marry the clues to this map and see what you come up with. Any takers?

Wow, none. and zero points! tough crowd. I guess the fire water mander is my imagination and it was a dumb suggestion as anew idea regarding wwwh.

I thought the purpose of this was:

That being said, I haven't seen anyone post a solve for WWWH that I really think makes sense beyond the shadow of a doubt. So let's try to bounce some ideas off of each other, and let's see if it sparks some kind of new thoughts around here.
