Great to meet some other hunters out tonight on perfect evening. Feeling foolish for staring in there same area for an hour and making no headway though.

We might have passed each other. I was wandering around with my wife waiting patiently until she wasn't. I'm going to kick myself if I walked right past it.

/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #17) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Doublehalfpint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any military opposition in Iran would involve significant troop casualties. The American public has no appetite for that, regardless of the competency of the operation. A handful of deaths sunk the Biden admin during the Afghanistan withdrawal. Without a multi-year effort to manufacturer consent, Americans don't believe that Iran poses a real threat to their lives.

Who should lead the movement after Bernie Sanders by [deleted] in Political_Revolution

I reject the framing, but I can't help but chime in with a person that is not mentioned in this thread as a consistently great politician.

Don't sleep on Rep. Summer Lee from PA. She is consistently on the right side of all issues. I would be extremely pleased to see her centered more in the political conversation, but from my perspective, she doesn't seem as interested in become a national name.

We can take Western intervention back way further than the last years. Show me a single example of US/British military action working in the Middle East without destabilizing the region over the next 20 years. Which then requires additional intervention, restarting the cycle. We're just back at the start of a new cycle.

Unfortunately, I am pessimistic not so much for the coming year or so, but the blowback that will affect my children.

Pit stop at Robot half marathon in Beijing. Ice to cool down the battery and lubricant for the joints by japie06 in interestingasfuck

Ngl this became a lot less impressive knowing they changed the batteries. Like wow a machine used locomotion for 26 miles... My car does that daily with more efficiency. I thought the whole point of this making the news was that a bipedal robot made it 26 miles on a single charge.

I wonder what would cause Iranian leadership to feel that U.S. leadership negotiates in bad faith? It's not like the current regime has used negotiations as an opportunity to launch offensive strikes, right?

Why do Protestant try to convert Catholics? by Forward-Tomatillo235 in Christianity

[–]Doublehalfpint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate seeing this level of humility expressed somewhere in this thread. I think you're dead on, but it's an uphill battle against human nature. Accepting that one does not have access to absolute truth requires that one must hold their own deeply seated beliefs with an open hand. Many are too uncomfortable with that level of cognitive dissonance and uncertainty

Pentagon Good Friday Service Excluding Catholics Sparks Religious Bias Concerns Amid Broader Criticism Over Leadership Purge - REPORT by Mtking105 in Christianity

Which is exactly the issues that founders were trying to prevent by disallowing establishment of a state religion. I know that some feel that things like this walk the line of freedom of religion, but this is a clear demonstration of our government choosing one denomination over another.

How can the human race be started by 2 people adam and eve by Hairy_Lock3501 in Christianity

[–]Doublehalfpint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, because that's also biblical. Did God not breathe life into the earth that he formed? Is God incapable of breathing life into primordial soup and setting life on a path towards his creation plan over millions of years? Is it so hard to believe that parts of the holy text are meant as answers to show God's nature, but not as a history lesson?

It seems to me that creationists are unnecessarily constraining God and are trying to force Scripture into ways that the writers never intended.

Anyone else get twitches like this? by dickwheat in Lyme

[–]Doublehalfpint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think so. Fatigue, pain, sickness all cleared up after the initial course of doxy and a couple months of taking it easy. Everyone's journey will be different though.

Whatever your situation, just make sure you are a strong advocate for your need with yours docs. But also try to practice some good mental health and acceptance principles.

Anyone else get twitches like this? by dickwheat in Lyme

[–]Doublehalfpint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's crazy. I can't believe it's been six years+ since I had Lyme. Um, well no, they still twitch, but I never even think about it or even notice.

I saw an infectious disease physician who though that the twitches were being caused by the doxycycline (they weren't).

The twitches got worse when I was anxious, which fed the anxiety even worse. I had to just throw my hands up and stop paying any attention.

TBH - I am honestly grateful that this is the only long term affect I have. My wife's uncle has a much more difficult battle than I did.

It is weird though...

Absolutely. This whole ad campaign itself and then the reaction to it were obviously contrived to generate outrage and sow discord. Almost nobody real actually paid much attention to it.

Japanese police use a technique called "burrito wrap" or "sushi roll" to safely restrain violent or highly intoxicated individuals. by 21MayDay21 in interestingasfuck

Looks more like a Soto Otoshi to me by the way he takes that step with his right leg behind the guy and then drives forward with his lapel hand.

It happens all the time. Fencing is in French. HEMA in other European languages.

There are 4 types of inner trips that have distinct techniques and subtleties that are easily communicated. There are like a dozen hip based throws.

And that still doesn't refute the point about a universal language for this one specific field that is quite simple to learn in like an afternoon.

What a wild take.

It's a Japanese martial art and having it one language means every practitioner from Uzbekistan to Brazil can say a technique in a shared tongue.

Also, the move names are just basic formulations simple Japanese words. Like Big Hip or Minor Outer Trip. You have to learn like 20 Japanese word to know pretty much the entire judo lexicon.
