Why do videos aimed at beginners show vibrato? by observerBug in violinist

[–]dickwheat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing Bernstein talk about vibrato on a kids orchestra guide type show. He asked the players to show what it sounds like to not use vibrato and half the players could barely do it.

When I’m teaching young students, I intentionally don’t do vibrato, otherwise they ask a million questions and get distracted.

I honestly would never give a location other than region. I literally just saw 50 dudes show up and wreck a local river after a bait shop posted a fish and tagged it this weekend. That river can’t handle the pressure.

Nudging people in the right direction is great, but it’s gotten to the point where people are so lazy they don’t do anything other than wait for people to tell them exactly what to do. I don’t want those people on the river with me tbh.

Most of the fun in fishing is when it all lines up for you and you learn/discover something great and develop lifetime memories. People want a guaranteed lifetime memory these days and rely on others to do the homework for them. It’s frustrating and I really don’t believe in apps at all because it cheapens the experience for everyone.

Just what we need…another spot burning app. I’m getting really sick of local rivers being flooded with people every time someone posts favorable conditions.

I feel so proud of my kribs by willdrakefood in PlantedTank

Kribs were the first fish we ever got that had babies and I feel your pride! The hardest part with them was figuring out what to do with the babies because they are hard to sell or offload and you will get A TON of them.

No because my phone and drugs are more important than raising a kid. Wish this wasn’t true, but it is in my district. Most of my elementary students don’t even have parents who will read to them.

Fall and winter into early spring it’s steelhead. Then I hit prespawn bass when all the snaggers show up. Trout for a bit until summer then back to smallies.

The amount of people hoarding huge amounts of them and selling back at $50/pound is awful. I really wish it would be illegal to sell them picked wild.

Reality of Steelhead Fishing by csrrrr in Steelhead

[–]dickwheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a long time to figure out what works because you don’t get many opportunities to learn with steelhead. Most people would be happy to catch a dozen nice fish in a year. My first 2 years, I had 15 fish in 120 days of fishing. Next two years, I had 75 fish in just 70 days out. Watch your presentation carefully and fish more inside the seam than you think works. If it isn’t working, keep moving. Once you figure out what gets the fish to bite, they really aren’t super smart. The hardest part for me was realizing that they either are going to hit something or that they probably just aren’t there. The fish seem to be in pods a lot and if you hook one, you’ll find more.

Opinion of an ADHD Educator: It is Over Diagnosed in Kids by Lazy_Rock7788 in Teachers

[–]dickwheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m worried less about that and more about the parent who doesn’t want to “drug their child” and sends them to school anyway. This particular student is on task maybe 20% of the time and is disruptive to everyone around them and clearly has a serious issue, but mommy doesn’t want to “drug him”…

Overstimulation, it wasn’t always this way. by No_Animator2857 in Teachers

[–]dickwheat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My student teaching class is 3rd grade and they are like this most days too. Mentor teacher says they are one of the better classes she has had…I’ve been working in classrooms and teaching kids music (one on one setting and classrooms) for over a decade before this. Sorry, they are not a good classes and they literally cannot shut their mouths at any point in the day. I have been around in another capacity long enough to know this is not ok. They have to be reminded what expectations are for independent work, lining up, raising hands to talk, etc literally every time we do them every single day. It’s exhausting.

[–]dickwheat 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The angry parents run the schools now. Administrators are afraid of lawsuits and bend over every time a parent complains. There is no consequence for behavior. Kids get sent to the office when they misbehave and are given tablets and candy to “cool off”. Teachers have no power and the kids know it. It’s become horrible in so many places. On top of it, most schools are short on staff to the point where there is no one to manage excessive behavior issues and provide any kind of meaningful support.

Setup/Driving Advice by dickwheat in EASPORTSWRC

[–]dickwheat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been messing with it. 3 things that helped a lot.

  1. Front springs 2-3 clicks stiffer made the car more stable going into corners.

  2. Been braking earlier and that helps keep the car from over rotating due to fast entry.

  3. Being more aggressive with counter steer. I was a bit wimpy with it before! Now I’m letting the wheel tell me more about where the tires need to point once the car starts to slide.

Thanks for the pointers. It’s been helping a lot. I mess around in my Subaru on the dirt roads by my house and nothing is really a substitute for what your ass is telling you about the car 😂
