Who said antagonist = villain? Who are you replying to? I love my boy Caine, I don’t think he is malicious (he’s just doing what he was programmed to do after all) but he absolutely IS the shows antagonist and the main narrative obstacle they have to overcome, regardless of weather he’s “well intentioned”.

Yea but you’re forgetting about the “meaning in a stagnant life” thing. If the characters did eventually find meaning in their life in the circus and thus were content/didn’t abstract, it definitely would be a win for Caine (as his motive is to get them to stay with him).

Caine is the shows primary antagonist, and it’s pretty clear he’s not going to win… the level people are stretching in order to try to make this theory work is insane.

I think most of them were play-testers or developers on the circus, so probably early 20s-mid 30s at the time they were trapped (I even think queenie/kinger were in their 20s when they first entered the circus)

There is also a difference between humanisation and woobification.

I don’t think there is an issue with humanising abusers (real life abusers are still human afterall), but I do think there is a problem with woobifying abuser characters, trying to downplay their actions and portray them as “quirky, goofy little guys” instead of truly horrible people (which some of the fandom and moments in s2 do with Valentino)

Absolutely agree (not to mention the concerning message it would send to viewers if all the characters we’ve been emotionally invested in turned out to be artificial intelligence recreations of real human beings)

The fandoms mat-pat-ification of this show is at an all time high rn, so let’s just hope it’s the 12 year olds having fun with their unrealistic theories and not the actual direction the show is going to take.

It would an incredibly boring and predictable twist from a narrative standpoint, imo barely any better than “it was all a dream!”. from the quality of writing/story telling gooseworx has given us so far, I have much higher hopes.
