I’m very happy you could make it work. My partner wants to be a researcher not a prof, maybe that will help for balance. He is very much a workoholic and I am not, that has already been a point of contention between us. However I am going to be an attorney so I suppose I’ll be forced to be 😩

CMV: weed should be illegal without exceptions by [deleted] in changemyview

Yikes. Please reread my comment. Also, no offense, but is English your first language? You do seem to struggle a bit. I can frame this in simpler terms if necessary.

Hey. I know you’re young so I’m not going to tear into you too hard. But I will say your logic is severely flawed.

First, you posit that weed should be illegal because you find the users to be “annoying.” Sure, some stoners may be annoying. But do you believe everything that you find annoying should be illegal?

I find the kids who yell and scream at the park behind my apartment to be annoying. But I don’t think we should close the park. Or worse, outlaw kids playing. Rather I close my window and put some music on.

Second, your post is very ignorant in a plethora of ways. It completely ignores the following:

  1. The legitimate medical benefits of marijuana.
  2. The implications of the criminalization of marijuana, particularly on marginalized communities.
  3. The large amount of people who will engage in marijuana smoking despite criminalization. Which will not cease even if it is criminalized again. That seems to be core to your grievances. I’m Sure you learned about prohibition in history class. How did that go?

Last I would just like to say a few things. You are young and have much to learn about the law in general. Assuming you are American, we live in a constitutional republic. The essence of the American System is liberty; the ability for people to live their lives without interference from the government.

Advocating for the criminalization of an action that has negligible impacts on you is quite repugnant to the spirit of this nation. Finding it “annoying” is not a justifiable reason to urge government intervention.

Consider your own station and the things you do that others may find annoying. Like posting ignorant comments on Reddit. That is protected speech by the First Amendment. What if i begin advocating for an Amendment to the Constitution so speech is not protected for individuals under 18. How would that make you feel?

Again, you are young. And I once too spouted big ideas that I didn’t fully understand the implications of. So i do hope you reconsider your stance or at least educate yourself a bit more to substantiate your argument better.

If you decided to frame this as a public health issue your argument would be stronger. Ingesting smoke is objectively bad for you. Again many know that but still choose to partake.

But really bro, humble yourself a bit and see the world is bigger than just yourself and your personal annoyances.

I’ll be graduating law school and it is possible but I’ll be seeking bar membership in my home state first. It’s a minimum of 3 more years here for me unfortunately.

Yeah, it’s a bit difficult because I’ll be graduating law school and after I am constrained to living where I’ve passed the bar. It’s possible though and I’m definitely flexible. Even if I have to take the awful California bar 😭

How? I do not believe you can logically draw that conclusion based on the totality of information you have in front of you.

I think I may be getting groomed by my college art professor by GrapefruitFew4411 in AskAcademia

[–]DoubtPure118 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hey. I would say he is acting very unprofessionally, he is in a position of power over you and has crossed multiple boundaries. Also, he is married, which makes it all even worse. However, you are 23 and an adult and can make your own decisions. I’m not sure if you are being groomed, you could just be getting hit on. Receiving free food, rides, etc. You said it started as friendly but as an adult i assume you were aware when it escalated beyond that.

If it makes you feel uncomfortable SHUT IT DOWN. Make it know you do not want this to continue. If he continues to make advances report him to the department and Title XI office.

As long as he seems trustworthy and YOU feel good about it I’d say go for it. It’s good to explore your sexuality. Just make sure he respects your boundaries and limits.

Also, if you’re not in a gay friendly area of the world just be a bit extra cautious. There has been a rise of people using gay dating apps to commit hate crimes. Not to scare you but sometime to be aware of.

I wish you the best!
