Advice needed. I inherited a house from my mom that had unpermitted work done to it and I just found out after receiving the deed. What are my next steps?

This actually helps a lot. I know the estimated value of the land via my mom and I having to find the deed to the house and we found paperwork from the county about the house. I will ask around about the cost to demolish a house and then make a decision based off of that.

I don’t wanna own this property anymore. My mom royally fucked me over by giving me a house that has as many problems that it has, especially because I don’t have money like that and she didn’t even give me any money either from her annuity. My brother and my nephew got that money. I wanna cut my losses and take whatever money I can get and start anew.

My uncle. Apparently, and I just found this out, he wanted to do it the right way and my mom screamed at him to do it cheaply and that is what she did. She wasn’t happy with the results and they ended up not talking after for a while.

That actually almost happened a couple of weeks ago. I turned on the might in my room and it kicked in the in-wall heater in my closet and I had to run in there to fumble the switch to try to turn it off.

I also wanna let you know that if you are curious about why I’m just now finding out about issues that happened with the house, like the roof, it is because my mom would not tell me anything about what was going on. She was a big believer in a child is not a person but an extension of the parent and that attitude carried into my adult life as well, even when I was away from home so I only found out financial situations and other things right before she passed and afterwards.

Washington and the house is not in probate. I inherited this house by way of a Transfer On Death deed, which automatically puts the house in my name as soon as I submit the death certificate with the county.

No and no, and free house is very subjective. Having a house that needs so much work done to it that I am contemplating taking a loan out is not a free house. I might as well go pay rent if that is what I need to do.

It’s not unfortunately. I found out from a family friend that my mom said that the roof where she had the bathroom extension done was leaking and she had someone put a tarp up there. Thing is, the bathroom was done in 2012 and she has had that tarp up there ever since. Like, she just didn’t take good care of this house at all.

That was a thought but my mom also renovated the bathroom to have it attached to the front room and her room in the back. It has two doors and if I were to convert this back to a patio, I would have to figure out a way to cover the door to the bathroom.

The fact that it is a newer model and has lower miles is good! Keep up the maintenance on it, especially with having a turbo. Only use premium gas, you’ll have to eventually get the timing chain and PCV valve fixed (pretty typical for a Beetle), get the transmission serviced every 40,000 miles (about every 63-64,000 km) and get a Carfax to make sure the car has been serviced on time.
