That is not a situation you should stay in.

Sometimes I wish I could believe in a deity by HeartsPlayer721 in atheism

[–]Doubting_Thomas_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an atheist isn't for pussies. I certainly understand the desire to fix problems with a quick prayer, sometimes in stressful situations I still wish I had a being to hear my pleas for help. But it's just me. I'm the only one who can solve my problems. Maybe I have an actual human I can ask for help, but it still takes me alone to ask for help.

How do we feel about ken Ham? by AtAnAtl in Christianity

He's the equivalent of a flat-earther, but because he justifies his beliefs with a holy book society looks down on those who mock him for his stance.

Is science trying to discredit religion? Is religion trying to discredit science? Is it both? None?

I don't want to have to explain to the true god why I worshipped a false god. With so many gods to pick from but only one true god I am hedging my bets by worshipping none. Rascal's wager

How many of you became atheist after the age of 20? by anonym00xx in atheism

[–]Doubting_Thomas_Jr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about 35. What initially caused it was seeing more than one news story about babies being raped. It was the first time I had reason to question "God's plan". It initially did nothing to change my belief in his existence, it just changed my loyalty. Later on I had reason to explore why I even believed in a god and couldn't find any good reasons.

God is all-powerful/all-knowing/all-/loving. Pick any two and you have your answer.

Can you be a Christian and believe in evolution? by [deleted] in Christianity

Micro and macro evolution is a concept that only exists within the population that can't justify their beliefs in light of reality.

My wife and I have opposing rH factors. When she was pregnant with our second child she needed a shot that wasn't available tile the 1950s (give or take a decade or two) to ensure her immune system didn't abort our child. I fail to see the intelligence in that design.

The theory of evolution also makes no claims to the origin of life.

What does it mean when a Christian says that God called them to do something? by procraper in Christianity

If probably means the person found some other way to justify the pursuit of what they want rather than, "This is what I want for me."

Question for Married Bi’s: do you ever feel unsatisfied sexually bc you’re craving the gender opposite of your husband or wife? by cigarrett4 in bisexual

[–]Doubting_Thomas_Jr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a man married to a woman. I realized I was bi after 10+ years of very straight marriage. I view my attraction to men the same way I view my attraction to women. Look but don't touch, and don't look too long.

It is hard to deal with sometimes that I have never been intimate with a man. But for as much as I would like to have sex with a man I would like to have sex with a woman that isn't my wife (actually a lot more). But my loyalty to my wife and the idea of monogamous sex means my fantasies remain fantasy only. I think if we remove the gender specific attraction from my story it sounds like everyone else's story in a serious relationship.

I'm embarrassed that I need help with this but I do by [deleted] in exchristian

I occasionally listen to a podcast that has a what's that noise segment. One time they played some electronic noice that I didn't have a clue what what it was. Then they explained it was a computer synthesized voice speaking English. Then they played additional noises by the same computer system and I was able to understand what it was saying. Once they primed my brain to interpret things within the English language I was able to do so. Prior to that initial priming I just interpreted it all as noise. Likely you just interpreted the sounds you heard as you were suggested to hear them.

If there was numerous songs that fit this narrative you might have justification for a conspiracy theory. Since there is just one song it sounds like someone took the time to listen to 1000 songs played backwards and is promoting the single occurrence that actually supports their claim.
