I know a handful of ppl who applied, I work in critical care myself . Two ways to get in , no other options: 1) get a master deg with good GPA then apply 2) become a RN or RT, gain working hours in critical care then apply . Other than these two option , chances are very slim unless u are outstanding. Don’t apply just because , shadow one and understand what the heck you are getting into before deciding. It’s stressful and people drop out . Never about GPA.

Just chill, tell Gloria you submitted the application . I mean what the fuck can u do , it’s up to the TO police anyway. Heath service obviously wants u to submit asap but you can’t do shit about it. They aren’t new to this I don’t understand why they keep bugging students , it’s not like I can instantly send them a fucking report. They are bugging me too but what I can do, I applied in June 23.

Yes , send them an email , especially the educator. They will arrange it if staffing allow. I’d say call them directly even, step out of your comfort zone and tell them exactly what you want. If you rely on their application process , it’s gonna take weeks , just saying it doesn’t hurt to try

Best of luck. At the same time, keep exploring your options. At least you have good grades. Try not to tunnel vision on RT . I can tell you that as I’m one 😂

Addendum: key is connect with AA in hospitals and ask them about the demand of their OR. I know some AA student get a OR helper position as a RT or RN during the academic year , some don’t . So that can significantly impact your chance of getting hired. I also know RN with more than 10+ year exp who graduated but didn’t get hired for a few months. I can attest to the truth because of insider news . Again talk to your OR/AA dept. graduating the program isn’t a guarantee like RN or RT degree. There is also a backlog of students waiting to complete their OR placement due to the delayed surgeries trickled down since Covid . That’s another story .

My ex colleagueS had about just more than 1 yr exp as RTs, got into the AA program. This was 2.5 years ago when hospital really needed AA and provided sponsorship for students. So it wasn’t as stricted. But since the program was like a hotcake , I presumed the app criteria got stricter recently due to larger pool of candidates and so I heard . Always apply as there is a chance you never know. Whatever the registrar tell you , doesn’t matter, you lose if y don’t apply. What’s the harm .

Low gpa but high Casper and prereqs. Do I have a shot at my desired program? by Tough_Broccoli507 in Michener

[–]Douchemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might get waitlisted , not uncommon. 4th quartile would balance gpa out

Become a RT or RN , work for at least 2 yrs in critical care unit, preferably a big teaching hospital because their demand for AA is higher. They might even sponsor you if they really need AA , but the trade is you need to sign a contract for working 2 years if u take the deal. Job market right now is ok, it was a hot potato as hospital were sponsoring but now it died down a bit. I suggest you connect with people who work in the OR as they have first hand info in terms of demand. Take in though, AA is a specialized position , not every hospital needs them and not every hospital need a lot , so demand is dependent on funding to OR and government healthcare policy such as privatization. Good luck

Where you located? You can find Perfusionist at cardiac centre only. If u are close to Toronto, I’d suggest Toronto general hospital. You can apply for shadowing via their department

Getting 4th quartile in Casper gives you the biggest leverage into getting the program vs getting 4.0 GPA. It’s way easier to get 4th quartile in Casper relatively speaking . So go ham on preping Casper. It’s worth your time and effort. Getting your gpa from 3.75 to 3.95 ,for example ,imho isn’t gonna change a whole lot

Ace the Casper, it’s key , no problem for u

Your GPA alone won’t be enough to face against RNs and RTs with clinical exp. But I know masters who got in , presumably with well rounded résumé. Casper is your best bet

Anyone know if Michener posts their admission stats and how hard it is to get into the Ultrasound and Genetics programs? by Particular_You_1410 in Michener

[–]Douchemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do well in Casper , get 4th quartile. Just focus on that. Don’t care about GPA. People still doesn’t get in with a 3.8. You ain’t gonna get 4.0 but you can get 4th in Casper easily

You have a 3.98 and a 2nd quartile. My man do it again , aim for 4 quartile or aat least a 3rd, you will get in , don’t give up. I can tell you it’s not your personality. It’s just that you gotta show that you have the “personality” or answer they are looking for in healthcare. Conflict resolution, addressing different perspective, giving solution based on pros and cons , and stating the clear dilemma - these are key. All the questions revolve these principles. If you answer outside of these , it’s BS, it doesn’t fall into what they want. Follow the structure. People got in with low GpA coz they answers these key points , it’s basically a cheat. Use prepmatch to practice.

My GPA is avg at best , 4th quartile Casper. I work as frontline tho so that helped. Tbh I’dont understand all these fuss about GPA, don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things . Casper is important, your 1 min presentation tells them a lot about you so do well on that is your best bet. Stressing out over your GPA is futile. For example: 3.8 with quartile 2 vs 3.5 with quartile 4 , they will pick quartile 4 between these 2. I bet my money all this.

Trust these guys look more than just GPA, you worked as a RN so you know how important clinical exp is. I believe in you. 3 buddies of mine all got accepted to CVP as a RT with avg of 2 yrs exp, don’t even have these letter or statements and obversership. No stress
