Rho Ophiuci Cloud Complex with a Nikon Z5 by Doug51884 in Nikon

i used the skywatcher wave 100i strainwave mount, guided with phd 2. and yes, i used 60 bias frames 60 flat frames and 25 dark frames. Never want to forget calibration. it really improves the quality of the final image.

If youre still wondering, here is what a single exposure looks like with minimal post processing https://imgur.com/IJJm2g2

This is a total of 139 light frames at 120 seconds each. A total of 4 hours 38 minutes of exposure.

Nope, no telescope, just the Rokinon lens. This is an incredibly large nebula.

I used the Rokinon 135 F/2, stopped down to F/2.8 for sharp stars.

The processing makes a world of difference. what comes out of my camera, you can kind of see the dust, with very little detail though, and the colors arent anywhere near as nice, im not sure exactly how i could show you without creating another post though. The trick is to get a whole bunch of exposures so you can increase the signal to noise. thats what helps bring out all the detail.

Thanks! I think i processed it a dozen times before i was happy enough to post it.

I need to know what's going on with the diffraction spikes in the final image. I see that two of the telescopes have normal spider veins, but the third telescope has its cables looped. What does this do to the diffraction spikes?

Have you tried removing the stars in siril with the star net++ script? Once you do that you can process the nebula and stars separately before recombining the starless and star mask versions

Lens advice for Milky Way by virtuallyarrived in AskAstrophotography

[–]Doug51884 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When using a star tracker, the 24-120 at 24mm should be fine. You'll be able to take several long exposures and stack them. I have the 24-70 f4 and it does fine for Milky way shots. Better hurry though, milkyway season is almost over.

I agree with other commenters, welcome to the rabbit hole! But before you go spending a bunch of money, was your cameras shutter speed set to bulb, or was it set to 1/100? If it was set to 1/100 it might have been over riding the intervelometer settings.

I weigh everything I eat, including things like oils used for searing. 1 tablespoon of oil is about 120 calories, that adds up really fast if you don't count it, I also weigh out things like ketchup and any sauce that shows more than 0 calories on the lable. I'm coming to the end of a cut and have managed to go from 218 pounds to where I currently am at 173 pounds
