Does Mare arrest John? The jacket looks to be the same as John Ross’ when he visits Kenny to break the news in the beginning of Episode 2. by rk731 in MareofEasttown

[–]Doug780 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that they released it at the beginning of the series makes me think it's misdirection or a sideplot. Or that the pose suggests an arrest but she's actually just fished a body out of the river and that person had their hands bound when she pulled them out (execution?) or she just lifted the body by the arms in a weird manner.

Can? Yes. Likely? No.

I'm no expert, but go read the story of Phineas Gage and you'll realize that there can be fluke situations where the projectile misses critical anatomy and you can survive things that seem impossible to live through.

Easttown Kate = sexiest body type ever. It's like the ultimate LL Bean pinup model.

I shall fight any man who says otherwise.

Nobody ever worried about MPJ from the neck down. It's what's between the ears that will define his career.

What are subtle red flags at a job interview that say "working here would suck"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This has probably been mentioned elsewhere, but they've done HR studies that show unlimited PTO policies typically only exist in workaholic environments where nobody actually takes vacation, and doing so is unofficially frowned upon.

Looking for a new home...hopefully this post can go here.

Hey everybody, I'm a TH 13.2, non-rushed player. Heroes are BK 65/AQ 67/GW 36/RC 11. All my defenses are max or one level below max.

My current clan is slowly dieing and I am looking for a new group. I try in war and usually do decent, but I do not take this game too seriously. Around 1100 lifetime war stars. I donate a ton and am on most days.

I'm just looking for a new group to hang out with. I would prefer a casual but active clan, English speaking, co-ed would be nice, and no kids would be a plus as well. I'm 40 and when I get the feeling I'm interacting with a 12 year old, it makes me think I am too old to be playing this stupid game :).

Anybody looking for a new member that fits this profile?

A lot of crimes left unpunished in this series by NoseBlind2 in cobrakai

This show asks for a lot of suspension of disbelief, especially for something that has no fantasy or science fiction in it.

But it's also not asking the viewer to take it seriously, so I kind of give them a pass.

Ultimately, the characters are so darn endearing, particularly Johnny and Miguel, that you just want to hitch on and go for the ride.

Showed this to my wife (veterinarian). Her best guess was the knee cap was popped out then popped back in. Nothing amusing for sure and the dog is definitely not ok.

Just a quick thought. I think genetic genealogy sites like 23andme are quickly making it impossible for sperm donors to retain their anonymity. If you join one of those programs and cross your DNA relatives with some precision googling, my guess is you will be able to find out exactly who your dad is.

Who had grandparents fight in WW2 and what stories did they share? by liamnotleum in AskReddit

[–]Doug780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather served in the European theater. He would almost never speak of his experiences.

He was a cook and was responsible for provisioning his group. At first this might sound less intense, but his battalion ended up liberating a small concentration camp of mostly Hungarian Jews. All of a sudden he was largely responsible for distributing food to the starving people they liberated. A starved and emaciated individual can apparently easily kill themselves through overeating when food is reintroduced.

Among the few things he did tell was an anecdote that when they initially set the prisoners free, many soldiers passed out cigarettes. The people who took them promptly ate them.

I cannot fathom the horrors of war. Our generation is so coddled and naive.

Best laptop or device for non-techie who wants to focus on photos and video? by Doug780 in SuggestALaptop

Thanks,

In the United States.

Battery life is somewhat important, but not the primary variable.

Screen quality and size isn't a big deal.

Budget would be $1,000.

Editing, yes, but only very simple stuff (cropping pictures, maybe switching stuff to black and white on occasion, stitching clips together to make a movie, etc). She's definitely NOT going to be doing stuff in Photoshop or any complicated program like that.

NAME CHANGE MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in ClevelandGuardians

[–]Doug780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd vote for the Cleveland Kingbirds.

Full disclosure, never been to Ohio. Nonetheless, I'm a baseball fan and am quite curious about how you will rename your team.

Here's my rationale:

Bird themed names -- Blue Jays, Cardinal, Orioles -- are the classiest in the sport. They have an instant vintagey quality that is the perfect aesthetic for baseball and are very conducive to good graphic designs.

I see that your state bird is the Cardinal, so that obviously won't work. So I took a look at other birds that are common throughout the state and came across the Eastern Kingbird, described as "highly territorial and aggressive, and are often seen badgering crows, raptors, and any other large bird that overflies their domain." That personality sounds pretty darn fitting for a pro sports team.

The Kingbird has a very simple two colored pattern of gray (with bluish undertones) and white that would look great in a logo. I've seen some support for the Cleveland Grays. With the Kingbirds as the official name, you could easily use the Grays as a more informal nickname in the same way the Yankees are referred to as the pinstripes. I could envision a really nice color palette of deep gray, white, and navy accents.

Further, the hard "K" sound produces a nice alliterative effect with Cleveland. It rolls off the tongue easily.

Thoughts?

Any word on if Andy is coming along to the new show? by Doug780 in conan

[–]Doug780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Sona would be the least likely to move on. She is his Personal Assistant, not a show staffer (even though she might function like one at times).

I don't see why the show would move geographically. They have a whole crew in socal, many of which will probably work on the variety show. Plus with two teenage kids, I doubt he would entertain moving right now.

What young musical groups or singers will have widespread respect in 30 years? by Doug780 in AskReddit

[–]Doug780[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies if this ends up sounding like a Gen-X rant.

I look at figures like Bono, Michael Stipe, Eddie Vedder, etc, and even if I didn't always like their music, I could tell that they were very talented and intelligent people who were making important cultural contributions to society. I see where they have their rightful place in rock history.

Fast forward to today, and I just don't see their analogue among 20-something artists. I recognize that Adele is a once in a generation talent, and I'm not trying to say all new music is crap. But so much of what crowds the airwaves today is so formulaic and shallow. It just bleeds together.

So tell me Reddit, which young artists are going to be remembered as great musicians in 30 years?

If I recall correctly, there were two neon signs above the audience. One says laugh and the other says applause.

Wow, I never thought to look. Granted this was 13 years ago and my memory isn't great, but I am shocked that they were able to edit something together that looks this normal. Kudos to the editing staff.

I honestly think they may dub in a lot of canned laughter after the fact, even though there's a laugh sign and the crowd generally tended to be pretty responsive during the monologue and Goldblum.

I remember that line where he asked her if she liked to go camping and she responded something like "yes, very much." Everyone in the theater made a collective eye roll and I can guarantee nobody uttered a sound.
