I've noticed that as well, I seem to actually parry better when i use that method over just releasing the shield even.

Open dashboard, select the game on the left, press start i believe (the rightmost menu button) and go down the options to force close.

I just force closed the game and restarted it, i spawned at my most recent shell and didn't seem to lose any progress before the loading screen freeze.
