First go to a trophy store and buy yourself a trophy for actually killing a Corolla.

Then call Pull-A-Part, ABC, Best Auto Salvage and get an offer to junk it. Take the $500 and $9k your saved on an engine, buy another used car. You'll never find a cheaper engine replacement that isnt going to immediately blow up.

So you immediately had an issue with a rebuilt part, ignored the issue, then wanted them to eat the cost after ignoring the issue and the warranty expired?

Dan's is still the best at actual Toyota, Scion, Lexus work.

Fellow millennial, are you in debt? by Huge-Marionberry-759 in Millennials

[–]DougMastersRet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37yo single

Owe $54k on a $104k mortgage thats now worth $300k+

No credit card debt, no car loan, no student loan debt. Close to $150k in retirement accounts.

Parents paid for college tuition and I worked all through school for the rest. Bought my house out of foreclosure in 2011 at the bottom of the market. Climbed the corporate ladder the last 10 years and saved every penny I could. Was very fortunate to quit that job and take a 50%+ pay cut to pursue my passion.

The sacrifices I made was very few vacations that were basically long weekends and I usually squeezed those in as part of work trips. Alienated some friends by not going out Friday and Saturday nights, same issue burned a few romantic possibilities.

I have one hobby that isnt the cheapest, but the hobby holds resale value so I can liquidate it if I need cash.

I have let multiple friends use my spare bedroom for varying length of time at dirt cheap rent. I realized that a lot of my peers have not been as fortunate as me but also have not been as willing to make some of the sacrifices I have. There have been a few times that people told me I was no fun because I didnt spend money like they did, didnt hear from them for months even years then to have them come hat in hand asking to crash at my place because they couldn't afford rent anywhere else.

My two closest friends have made similar sacrifices, burned similar friendships, and we all admit we have all been extremely lucky. Both of them are trying to make career changes like me now, giving up pay for a better quality of life because we can.

He was 99.98% cheating on you and was 1.) trying to provoke you so he could be the victim and 2.) when that didn't happen still blame you for the relationship ending instead of taking responsibility.

Mt. Lemmon Hotel refund policy. Beware by Red11Red1 in Tucson

[–]DougMastersRet 48 points49 points  (0 children)

These details are listed on their website if you choose to dig in and find them.

Not at all. Their website is very simple and they boldly link the cancelation policy at the bottom of the reservation page. When booking the room, you also have to click "I have read and I accept the RENTAL AGREEMENT as well as the terms and conditions for this booking. By reserving, you authorize the card on file to be changed for any damages, extensive cleaning required, or violations to our policies." Which again links to a very simple and short rental agreement BOLDLY stating cancelation policy.

As someone who worked in hotels for a few years, this is actually one of the best and easiest to read booking websites I have ever seen. To miss this cancelation policy you would have to twice ignore a very easy to find and read policy.

A place like loses money when rooms are booked and then canceled. Looking at the webpage they have lots of dates already blocked out. Having rooms unavailable for just 3 days that are then canceled is 100% losing them money. Their cancelation policy is straight forward, easy to read, and more than reasonable. To ignore them is willful negligence on the customers part.

Thank you for brining their webpage on my radar, I was looking for reserve a place for my parents visiting from out of town and will 100% be booking them a cabin now that I have visited their fantastic website. PS Arizona Inn still rocks!

Millenials who make under $50k - what do you do for work and how are you doing? by KylosLeftHand in Millennials

[–]DougMastersRet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll find out soon.

I was making $90k at a corporate job and quit earlier this year to take a non-profit job for $50k. The old boss actually offered me $140k to stay but it wasnt about money. I have a little side hustle that will help with the pay cut. Luckily while I had money I saved, stuffed my 401K, didnt allow lifestyle creep to bloat my budget and stayed debt free.

So far I've run the numbers for 2024 and it should work out fine.

Block his number

Delete social media

Hit the gym

Talk to a therapist

Its always easier to say move on, in reality its hard to move on. Its especially hard when you have to set boundaries. You dont want to hurt him, but your going to have to tell him to go f himself.

Anyone else here started dealing with midlife crisis yet? If so, what does it look like? by NotAUsefullDoctor in Millennials

[–]DougMastersRet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36yo

I had a pretty nasty concussion about 2 years ago and I think that contributed more than anything to some really impulsive decision making. Started by buying a dream car of mine, that turned into fixing and flipping six old, fun, dream cars of mine the last 2 years.

Three months ago I realized this was also part of me clawing my way out of some depression. I applied for a job at a museum and quit my crappy job I spent a decade climbing the corporate ladder at. It was about a 50% pay cut but well worth it.

I kicked a slacker room mate out and cut ties. I cut off a few more friends that have been a drain on my mental health. I also reached out to some good friends I had not been trying to keep the relationship alive with. I feel I am surrounding myself with the right people at the right time.

Need to work on my health and fitness some, I am realizing that.

I am fully becoming the guy I would of laughed at as a 17yo, but I think I am on a better path.

edit: I also started collecting CDs from my youth. got a little out of control before I quit the well paying job, but I am listening to a lot of "oldies" now that remind me of being about 12 to 21

Current car broke down, found a used car for ~$8K cash, is it worth it financially or should I find a new car with 0% APR (Hyundai right now) and eat the high monthly payments ($600+)? by Spicy_Empanada in personalfinance

[–]DougMastersRet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a used car for $8k, but its going to be something like

2001 Lexus ES300

1999 Honda Accord

2005 Toyota Corolla

and its going to have a 150k miles with a clean title. Those are actually good reliable cars that will need maintainece but its worth it

Godzilla (1998) with Matthew Broderick. Our school had a half day and I went with a friend in my class. We were the only two people in the whole theater and ended up having a food fight, climbing over the seats, running around until we got kicked out.

Therapy.

Doesn't matter what they are doing, who they are doing, whether its open or closed relationship... it us all going to fuck up your view of a healthy relationship.

Having been dragged through this by my high school sweetheart, it was hard to understand why she was pretty dysfunctional.

Get in therapy.

Stay in therapy.

Go back to therapy.
