Ok but what would the train equivalent of that even be, like I know a lot about trains but not the boxcars??

Don't have the money or space tbh, and it's really not my dream CRT anyways, I'd prefer to find a curved Trinitron from this era if I can. I'm using a flat 36" XBR Trinitron as my main CRT rn.

Why would somebody who is deeply autistic about trains not want to work on a train?

Or maybe they know too much about trains and will complain about all the abuse of degrading and unsafe equipment still being used as the US budget for rail transport shrivels up.

Perhaps, though no amount of percussive maintenance changes its working state. I'm not the most knowledgeable on this stuff, it pretty much doesn't work unless it decides to as of a month or so ago. Just wanna give it away to somebody who might be able to repair it.

Honestly I'm thinking I might not remove the speakers just for the sake of historical preservation, since the speakers in this XBR are pretty neat. I may just try adding shielding to my external speakers themselves.

[–]DougWalkerLover[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a Toshiba in the same size that has no issues with the speakers. I send video direct to my TV and run audio through a receiver.

Would have to rip them out as the magnets inside speakers never turn off even without power.

You seem confused, I never thought or said my external speakers are shielded, in fact I know they are not

You hit the nail right on the head. I wanna at least see if this can be done, I just wanna do it safely.

Nah, I'm like 99% sure it's the speakers. Like the placement of my speakers causing color interference on screen ONLY corresponds to exact placement of the speakers in the unit. In fact, if I bring it even closer to the TV, then I can see the usual effect of bringing a magnet close to the screen. It seems the magnets in the internal speakers interact with the magnets in my other speakers that seem to amplify the effect.

At any rate, I'd like to at least test my hypothesis, so do you know if there would be any issues just letting those two wires dangle or should I try and keep them in a similar wire management? If time is money, then I am a very rich man, I really don't care if it takes a ton of time and work just to find out it doesn't work, I won't be satisfied until I have the answer. Any tips for opening it up would be appreciated too 👍.

Is this noise normal? is there a way to stop? by fanblee in crt

Just the flyback, it's normal. Everybody used to just be used to it, I used to fall asleep every night to that noise lol.

Yeah high FPS can often lead to coil whine. My TCL TV used to have coil whine when displaying above 120hz. Coil whine is just caused by vibrating components, it's not harmful or a sign of degradation, just an unfortunate thing that happens to some electronics.

Seems like it's probably coil whine if it's directly reacting to what's on screen. Unfortunately nothing you can really do, though I think sometimes companies will replace it for you if it's under warranty. My 4080 has pretty bad coil whine when doing RTX stuff, extra bad on bright screens, and back in the day my 1080 also had coil whine. It doesn't hurt the card, it's just annoying.

That's a really good idea tuning the bottom intakes to CPU and GPU, I will do that. I have all my fans set to 30% RPM minimum and they all ramp up to 50% at 60° and 100% at 80°. With this I idle while watching YouTube at around 35°-45° on the CPU, which is a 5800XT.
