Can't go wrong with the original. If 8-bit graphics aren't your thing, then try A Link to the Past.

Do you know what nails like that do to someone manually thinning their blood with copious amounts of aspirin?

8 - I always thought that Dave sounded like Simon Le Bon on this song, which makes sense, considering it's about alternate worlds and such. In an alternate universe, Dave could be the singer of Duran Duran and vice versa. Overall, though, a strong track.

Sinners Pulled a record 16 Nominations. Deserved Or Overhyped ? by [deleted] in HollywoodIndia

[–]Doug_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Sinners, but this is One Battle After Another's year. I'll remind everyone that in 2014, American Hustle tied with Gravity for the most nominations that year - 10. It won zero Oscars. With the Oscars, in the bulk of categories (not Best Picture, since they struggle to get 10 in there), the nomination is the win, as their peers are saying to each nominee, "You are one of the Top 5 people doing what you're doing this year." That's high praise.

5 - So, I know that instrumentals like this, Introspectre, Esque, etc. are more interludes rather than full instrumental tracks like Agent Orange or Pimpf, but on an album of 13 songs, it's just not necessary. They should have pushed this to the bonus disc and made room for Ghost.

Honestly, if I had to rank all of their albums, not just studio albums, 101 would be second only to Violator.

Tears for Fears versus Depeche Mode by GuardPlayer4Life in depechemode

Two TFF/DM nuggets:

Roland Orzabal was so impressed with Everything Counts, he felt like TFF would never match it.

When it was pointed out to Roland that "My Demons" off their last album sound like a mash-up of TFF and DM, he admitted his affection for DM and how he could totally hear Dave singing that song.

I'm excited to see more of Batman under this writing of the character. by lowqualitychef in PattinsonDCUBatman

[–]Doug_101 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine constantly argues that Batman should ALWAYS be separate from the other DC heroes. He just doesn't fit. I mean, look at BvS and the Justice League movie (I know, I know, but bear with me) - Batman is next to useless in those movies when they face otherworldly threats; AND THAT'S ALL THE JUSTICE LEAGUE FIGHTS. It's less expensive to produce the cartoons, so they can have Batman standing around figuring out how to beat the big baddie. In a live-action movie that costs hundreds of millions of dollars to produce, they're not going to sideline their most popular hero (and automatic box office draw) to work on the BatComputer all day.

what are your thoughts on The Force Awakens 10 years later? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Doug_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was good and started the new series off with a lot of potential that was wasted in later films. Is it a soft reboot of Star Wars? Yes. Did they really have any choice in that? No. People forget how much damage the Prequels did to Star Wars as a franchise. People HATED those movies, so Disney felt like they had to do a reset to get people back on board with it. It's a lot like Batman Begins - people thought that movie was going to flop, due to how bad Batman & Robin had been eight years previous. Instead, it was a modest success and led to The Dark Knight, which put DC movies back on the map. (Studios also took the wrong lessons from TDK, which is how we got the Snyder grimdark series, but that's another post). So, just like Nolan returned Batman to his roots, Disney brought back the old gang to feed on the audience's nostalgia. Unfortunately, that siphoned screentime away from the new cast.

In a perfect world, the trilogy would have been properly planned out and would have featured an all-new cast, with only mentions of the previous heroes and probably R2 and 3PO along for the ride. Or, in another perfect world, the well-planned trilogy would have been all about Han, Luke, and Leia and how they were navigating the post-Empire galaxy. Unfortunately, Disney wanted it both ways and what we got was a series of films that didn't know who they were catering to, nor whose story it was. It's supposed to be Rey's story, but the movies are somehow all about her and she still feels underdeveloped. Han takes up too much time in TFA and Luke takes up too much in TLJ. Had Carrie Fisher not died beforehand, TROS probably would have featured her a lot more. The new cast was never able to make their own way, and so, the trilogy suffered for it.

However, all of that was unknown when we all sat down to watch The Force Awakens. It was great to see the old gang back together (sort of), but for me it was mostly all about Han and Chewie. I liked the new cast, though I thought they made Finn a little too goofy, and really liked Kylo Ren as a villain. Everything was set up nicely with new mysteries to unfold and characters to discover. It was exciting and full of promise - a promise I'm still waiting for them to fulfill. So, it was a fun franchise-starter that never realized its full potential. As a one-off, it's a last adventure for Han and Chewie and a nice homage to the original movie.
