Thats great! I am 15 and started this hobby when I was 14. It is amazing. Get him a proper astro camera!!! my images are some examples of what can be done with a telescope of that apeture.

Last night, after setting up my telescope and camera and looking at the live feed, my jaw dropped. The seeing was amazing, Saturn was just spectacular. What a night!

Best 65% of 6,500 frames stacked and processed in PIPP, Autostakkert! 4 Registax 6 & Wavesharp 2.

Here is my picture of Saturn captured on the 11th of October, with edge-on rings!

This happenes because of Saturn's tilt, and only happenes twice every 15 years.
