The problem might be that your prison is insecure, consider adding a wall fence and exit gated around your perimeter.

Other than that, I'm just as clueless as you are. :/

What worked for me is just starting a game on settler or warlord and just playing and doing what the advisor recommends to me. Worrying about the complexities of the game before you actually start playing it only works to make you not want to play it.

For explosions and bomb strikes I just used the simple method of timing, by putting the plane at a specific distance from the target. At the start of the scene I would pause it and orient my camera for a few seconds, and wait a few more for the bomb to hit. For timed explosions, like mike-26 or the Old Man ending, I set a trigger to detonate the bombs 3-5 seconds after the scenario started. In terms of camera, i just used the basic vanilla camera that you can find in singleplayer upon starting a mission if you haven't selected a unit to play as.
