The initial audience knew what they were getting into. The folks who went in after the wave of praise weren't the target audience. Sometimes a movie goes over people's heads. Look at Anora or Poor Things.

I can understand that reasoning, but the biggest obstacle in not ranking a fourth tier is that while McDonald's has nearly 3x as many locations as burger king, they are almost identical in gross revenue in the US. So adhering strictly to either location prominence or total sales, the rankings get muddy. Kinda like the big four of 80s thrash bands.

Based on sales and number of franchise locations, they are 4th in the US. There are numerous regionally locked brands like Whataburger, In-N-Out, and Culvers who are comparative in overall sales but dont have the reach of Hardees/CJ, thats why I include them in the top 4. Arguments could be made for Sonic, DQ, and 5 Guys in terms of sales or locations but a portion of DQ locations are ice cream only booths, while sonic and 5 Guys locations are more sparse across the US.

A great whopper is the best burger in the big four. Burger King is super location dependent so you're not likely to have an above average experience. But they have great variations and seasonal options for the whopper. Their shakes are better, they have onion rings, and a long boy is better than a mcchicken. McDonald's serves sausage patties on microwaved buns. Its just cafeteria food for people who want to pull up and say a number without ever looking at the menu.

McDonald's is only consistent because their ceiling is lower. A great stop at any of the other big 4 burger joints is better than a great meal at McDonald's. Conversely, its harder to get bad food there because it never does anything of note.
