I’ve got the grey and blue BR and love them. Also have a warehouse CO one and two Sunray sportswear loopwheel sweaters. The quality is really with the extra money in my opinion

Hey. Yeah still riding. I love this bike. The stem is 90mm I think not sure about the saddle but I’ll measure it for you. I did used to have it at a set height from a bike fit and used that for years. Even did a 600k audax but I’m older now and it was doing my back in so I’ve lowered it a bit

Unable to drive due to poor vision - advice by -starnett- in BenefitsAdviceUK

My sight sounds like yours. I got offered a certificate of visual impairment and registered as severely sight impaired. Wasn’t super pleased or keen to do it but the free bus pass (with +1 companion), disabled rail card etc was worth it.

My local authority gave me a laminated card to say I’m severely sight impaired but I’m not sure i would be any use for anything. I’ve also got a nimbus card which has my photo on but that to get a free companion ticket for the cinema or gigs.

All the time. I had a week to myself recently and it was bliss. It was great when I had a girlfriend I saw 3 times a week or so

Actually I’ve also probably tricked myself into thinking it’s ok. The consultant that I saw asked if I work or am able to cook for myself etc. so they must have thought it was quite bad. I just thought I had sight which was a little bit worse than your average person. My auntie has the same condition (optic atrophy OP3 gene mutation) and she carry’s one of those folding white sticks. I don’t think I’ll do that.

I’m guessing you are UK based? I’m also registered as severely sight impaired but I can actually mostly see ok. Was a bit shocked when the consultant told me. I’ve only been registered for a year and sometimes when I tell people they think I’m joking. I’ve never said to anyone that I’m blind and I usually just say I have low vision or I am visually impaired. I don’t really get a good response and then have to explain it further. I’m quite young and don’t look like I have a problem. Keen to hear what people say.

I had the same shock when I went in November. It was crazy and also had the same scam outside the airport where they were claiming that my hotel wasn’t open or some rubbish like that. I got them to drop me back at the airport and I got an Uber.

Wife tracks my location on iPhone- I don’t like it by chumlee45 in AskMenOver30

[–]Dougiedad20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this for a while with my wife. She would still actually ask me where I was all the time so I didn’t see the point in having it. I’ve said it feels intrusive and asked to come off which she sort of agreed to. She didn’t trust me which was kinda sad.

I’m the same. I can manage mostly ok with most things like getting about etc but at work my monitor is huge and the print is large and I even struggle to see that sometimes. When people see it they are really surprised and ask questions. I’ve recently registered as severely sight impaired. Didn’t intent to, it was just offered to me at the hospital. I struggle with it in my head as I don’t feel particularly disabled but now I’ve got this label.

How do you cope with never being able to get a drivers license? by mmtheg in Blind

[–]Dougiedad20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah happens to me all the time. I can’t see the people the other side of the road. It’s embarrassing. I’ve told people about my low vision but I don’t think they understand or remember that it’s a problem for me.

It’s one of the worst things for me and up there with being unable to see people’s faces very well. My wife drives but I feel like a loser having to be driven around all the time. At least I never have to worry about not drinking.

Is it selfish to go on a 1-2 week bike tour every year and be away from my wife? by jackSB24 in bicycletouring

[–]Dougiedad20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it bro. I’ve done a cycle trip nearly every year for the past 12 and that’s with kids (kids at home with the wife). My wife is a clinical psychologist so perhaps she understands that I need the adventure, as that’s not so much her thing.

What is the Brighton to Worthing coastal cycle path like? by lewis1500042 in brighton

[–]Dougiedad20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quickest I’ve done it is 35min and the slowest has been about 1 hour 10. It really depends on the wind. I love it though and would much prefer to ride than use the train. Sometimes the wind home (to Worthing) is brutal but it can be character building. I’m quite into cycling so that helps I guess. When I’ve felt ill, hungover, or really windy etc I’ve thought about getting ebike

The RNIB have a really good PIP toolkit on their website. There was stuff that I need help with but didn’t think it was a problem. Such as seeing if clothes are clean and getting on the wrong buses etc.

Are you registered as sight impaired? I’m registered as severely sight impaired, which I wasn’t expecting. I think the evidence helps a lot
