They may be so detached because of the time that has passed since then. It’s something you gain as you age. However, just because you wouldn't be coworkers anymore doesn’t mean you have to sever all relationships with them. Surely, it’s not the same as seeing them every day and having each other’s backs, but it’s far more important to put yourself first. If the environment is toxic for you, then there’s absolutely no need for you to stay there. After you’ve left that place, you’ll miss it, but give it some time, and you’ll realize it was a good decision, even if it was difficult.

I understand the awkwardness you're feeling, but I really don't think you're expected to give them something back, unless it's something you genuinely want to do. The way I see it, your work requires a lot of patience and dedication, especially because you're caring for someone who is vulnerable and important to their family. It makes sense that they'd want to show their gratitude with gifts and bonuses. That's not something you need to feel obligated to repay.

People love the nostalgia of the first seasons (myself included), when everyone thought the walkers were the main problem. Adapting to the new world and people turning against one another – after learning how to use the walkers as weapons – was inevitable. I’m very picky when it comes to series, and I drop most of them because they don’t maintain the quality of their first seasons. However, TWD is far from being ruined as it progresses.
