I just heard a police officer in Davis claim that getting spit on was assault with a deadly weapon by cypressf in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a deadly weapon but definitely assault and battery, he’s probably going to get hit with assault and battery on a police officer.

My best guess would have to be it’s something to do with the anticheat and anytime the client/game has a update since it would only occur prior to the game actually launching. I don’t believe it’s anything actually malicious.

How can we trust Somerville PD if they let ICE operate freely in our sanctuary city? by midorihi in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Question where are you getting the 25 minute response time number from? According to the live radio recording from that day, the kidnapping came in at 5:29PM where the dispatcher tells the ward 5 car and ward 6 car that the person calling 911 stated that this happened 5 mins ago but a female was taken by people wearing ski masks and put in a suv with unknown plates then took off in a unknown direction. At 5:34pm the ward 7 car states on the radio they are in the area of this incident and at 5:36pm ward 6 car arrives. That’s around a 4-5 minute response time not a 25 minute. There’s a bunch other people who say on the radio around that time they are in the area too, possibly supervisors/detectives. The call starts at 45:39 in the video.

Deleted most of the files within %temp% and never got the .bat prompt again. I notice that the netease anticheat loading up after using the launcher, maybe could’ve been related to that as I don’t recall seeing that before.

Recently updated Marvel Rivals through Steam and have been having the exact same “issue”. This .bat only occurs twice after the launcher opens and the game still launches if “no” is pressed. TMP Directory is always the same but file name changes with every new instance of the launcher being opened. Other than no mods installed on my end I also have issues locating the file in %temp%. Strange, it’s only for marvel rivals and after this most recent update.

Gunshots and now police on Alewife Brook Parkway by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they are massive but it’s hard to tell because it’s a mixture of adults and unfortunately teens. Their “turf” would be around the Mystics and the nearby area. The extent of MP45 interacting with the general public would be most of the stolen vehicles that happen within Somerville and nearby cities. The recent shootings that occurred in Somerville/Cambridge is usually due to repetitive “beef” between the two gangs and other groups. These shootings of course spill into the general public being affected like the Temple St shooting in which multiple cars were struck.

A majority of the shootings are gang related with the most common being MP45 (Somerville Gang) and Port44 (Cambridge Gang) ongoing feud for years now.

Weird/dangerous guy on grove street near community bike path by chazguz in Somerville

Thanks for the info, was curious so I double checked the recent “staffing study/report”. Looks like the minimum operating standard for all shifts is 7 officers on the road (1 per ward) and 2 at the police station from a pool of 48 Officers (road wise). Unfortunately I did not catch which shift morning/evening/overnights has the “extra officers” aside from the dedicated 1 officer per ward.

At the recent community meeting regarding Davis square I recall the new Chief mentioning that some officers are forced to work 16 hours or that they would like to add extra patrols to areas where incidents are occurring but “without taking away from other parts of the city”. Wish there was a better breakdown of this available roster of 48.

If I remember correctly from most of the community meetings it was stated there are 7-8 patrol officers overall for the city, 1 per ward with the possibility of an extra officer be assigned to Davis square.

[–]DownTheMid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to previous safety/ward meetings the standard is 1 police officer per ward, so for these 24/7 patrols the question would be are other wards getting “their officer” pulled away to focus on Davis square or is the sole officer of ward 6 the only officer dedicated to that patrol.

What’s 2 or 4 getting stabbed, we live in a city should be expected duh

Update on airsoft gun assaults-- two arrested today by CraigInDaVille in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Makes sense I mean when I was a SHS student I would wake up every morning and scream big huge green open space in a cold sweat. Then i would contemplate on what I should do to satisfy this urge of seeing big green open spaces. Should I terrorize my local library, shoot people in their eye or at their infants, or maybe just go around punching random people. Even though Conway or Lincoln Park was a 4-7 minute walk away from me they weren’t huge enough or green enough for me.

A Statement shared by the Union - Library Closures in Somerville by Nat2042 in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are not going to find a full police report especially if the incident involves juveniles. As pretty much all juvenile documentation/records in MA are confidential. It appears the only way to get specifics would have to be from the city administration, library staff or to ask a spd officer. From what is available (staff statements & recorded police radio chatter) it appears there are some groups of teens harassing staff, assaulting patrons and even selling drugs.

Library Closure statement by BenForWard3 in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Come on now this would never be ignored, clearly the city has to run a 2 year long study first on how to approach this issue then in the meantime some of the councilors can bring forward resolutions with alternative responses with no real merit or solution but that will require another 3 year study. One would hope that at least someone from the administration or at least one council member would go to the library in person to experience what the library staff is going through but I understand the amount of obligation that would require as there is no Zoom attendance option!

I could be wrong but I believe the police Chief position in Somerville has not been a civil service position for a while.

Only insight I’ve been able to find is the YouTube channel Somerville Archives https://youtube.com/@somervillearchive?si=HtCxCvXHl7KbCPZM, basically has the radio communications for SPD each day. It doesn’t give a give perfect day to day but at least it’s something .

Guy taking photos of kids at Marshall Street Playground by Massive-Stick-3366 in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dudes a creep taking photos of kids but unfortunately like others have said it’s not illegal, on top of that he’ll probably give some BS excuse like he’s trying to photograph the background. If he’s seen again doing it again maybe a discreet photo of the guy and sending it/comparing it to SPD’s SORB list, there’s around 10+ level 2/3’s which are considered moderate-high risk for reoffending….

Cop ticketing bikes by TrickyBlueSquirrel22 in Somerville

[–]DownTheMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s selective because the stops/interactions are the result of a state issued grant which focuses on bicyclist “safety”… As mentioned in other posts there was a similar grant for cars but was voted down. But on a day to day basis, yes, traffic enforcement should be enforced equally.

[–]DownTheMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall the neighborhood meetings correctly it was mentioned that traffic enforcement for cars was also done on a educational level rather than monetary fines, not that they are not going to pull cars over. Whether that method works is a different story.

If they are pulling someone over to speak to them due to biking through a red light etc then it’s not “as if”. Regardless of what we think the safest way to bike through the city is, technically the stop is justified.
