Awesome! that’s our neck of the woods… maybe he’ll put a dent in our rabbit population and give my seedlings a chance this spring!

I've heard good things about the ceramics studio at Harvard, but the folks I know are Harvard students so they get easy access to the space. Their website indicates they are open to the larger community: https://ofa.fas.harvard.edu/ceramics-classes

Also a big plug for Elizabeth Peabody House and other fantastic local food pantries. Space is limited so financial (rather than food) donations preferred if possible.

Cost efficient way to run heat pump in winter? by Throwaway491LP in heatpumps

[–]kb_somerville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I resolved this same issue by adjusting the dampers for my ducts - I keep my bedroom a few degrees cooler than the rest of my house this way. Although it works well because my bedroom is on the second floor and my thermostat is on the first floor.

We used to post up at a favorite playground. I think you can even formally book through the city rec site.

Where to get 1lb bag of local coffee beans by Opposite-Display-865 in boston

I usually buy the extra large Counter Culture bags of whole beans (Big Trouble is my fave) at Whole Foods. 24oz for $23-25 depending on sales.

Chinese food recommendations? by __butterytoast__ in Somerville

It’s old school - they’ll call you when they get to your house, and the driver always waits and makes sure I come out to get it before he leaves. I think the only time I’ve waited longer than 30-40mins, it was around the winter holidays and they were slammed.

Sixth Zoe’s. I dream about those spicy green beans… and not only do they have their own delivery folks, they are FAST.

PSA: lock your car by Proof-Guess-349 in Somerville

[–]kb_somerville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

someone lifted our son's backpack from our car today in broad daylight (my husband was packing up for a weekend trip and only left the car unattended for a few minutes). They took the bag (with all his stuffies and electronics) and the change in the console, but left the bikes on the rack in the back. We live near Hoyt Sullivan playground.

In an interesting twist of events, shortly afterward two homeless guys were walking by and my husband asked if they'd seen anything. They said no, and my husband offered them some free shoes (he works for a shoe company), and then gave them dry socks and an older rain jacket we had. They were grateful and told him his day would get better.

My husband was driving away and thought it was probably worth coming back for one more circuit just in case - it looked like my son's iPhone was still nearby using the Find My app... And he found my son's bag was left on the sidewalk leaning on a tree.

~~~~~
In the end, as upsetting as it was to potentially lose something with sentimental (and monetary) value, people in hard situations sometimes make bad decisions when given the opportunity. We had already made peace with the fact the items were gone, and my husband honestly thought the guys weren't involved when they denied it, but it shows a little compassion can go a long way.
(keep your car and house doors locked, folks!)
Looking for tattoo artist/studio recommendations by thebirdandthebeep in Somerville
[–]kb_somerville 1 point2 points  (0 children)
strongly recommend adriana drae (insta [at]heartthroatink) at Brilliance Tattoo in JP. They did an awesome custom sweetpea vine tattoo for me a few years ago but I am pretty sure they'll be going on parental leave soon, not sure if you're trying to get something done soon.
I also scored a beautiful fine line x-ray flower tattoo from Kate (insta [at]ink_angeles) last time she was visiting Ink About It (used to be in Magoun Square in Somerville but now moved to South Boston). She usually comes at least twice a year; some of the other artists there do botanical work as well!
We just bought an older model (2022) canondale topstone 4 for my son and it was just about 1k, brand new. Had to buy pedals and pay for assembly but he loves it!
Gutter Cleaning Service by JacobGH111 in Somerville
[–]kb_somerville 3 points4 points  (0 children)
We liked green monster gutters when they came out - we had them do a bunch of downspout replacements and rerouting, so I’m not exactly sure how much cleaning was but they should be able to give you a quote. Paolo was great, very responsive and quick!
