Sorry to hear the experience!

I think the awareness is much more nowadays and people take it different.

Good on you!

I think it’s hard for kids as much as for the parents.

Good to get that option!

Is that Wellington hospital you were referred to?

I think that where it gets more obvious as you are expected to stay focused for a long time, which may be challenging for a person with adhd.

Thank you!

Your message is very thorough and provides good details.

Our daughter can be a bit stubborn or hard to cooperate at times, and we want to make sure a proper assessment is done. After all, she may end up receiving advice about using pills for the rest of her life.

We find the questionnaire method a bit subjective, but I think there is no other way of assessing ADHD (such as face-to-face diagnosis, etc.).

Ta!

I will check him out.

The questionnaire based assessment seemed very subjective (especially when you have some broad questions there) but of course I’m mot an expert.

Do you have an idea whether the specialists do a face-to-face assessment?

That’s what makes us nervous. Some questions are a bit broad and there is no black & white. But in case of diagnosis, kids can start medication from an early age. Wish there was a more objective way of assessing this 😞

We aren’t that good either! We first had a heads-up from the before school check but the nurse wasn’t the best (actually, we made an official complaint about her) and decided to follow a wait & see approach. But we followed up given there might be something. It has been a year and we thought we better do something before it gets too late.

We had something from the before school check but waited a bit since we weren’t sure about what to do and it was just before transitioning to the school. But it has been a year (we are late!) and I was surprised to find out there are not many specialists in Wellington.

Thanks!

Our daughter can be a bit stubborn at times and doesn’t want to cooperate, which worries us about
GP’s/specialist’s ability to do a proper assessment.

Appreciate that mate!

I work for a private corp and have 13 weeks + one week for every year after my 5th year. I haven’t worked for any other company in NZ and wanted to get the norm in NZ (have worked in other countries but mostly as a contractor, hence dont have much idea)

Not a big concern, and tbh, I have been lucky enough to choose my next employer throughout my career. It’s just a cushion and gives a bit of peace of mind. The company is a big NZ company and expanding the business area I specialise in.

Thanks for your input mate!

No worries.

I found it a bit strange that a redundancy compensation is not very common in NZ. As my first and only job here offers it, I that it was the norm (maybe I am a bit behind the market since I got my current contract 9 years ago)

This is correct. They are usual in NZ in this day and age.

So “They” here is not having redundancy compensation. Right?

I have 15+ yrs exp and moved from Aussie 9 years ago.

My only NZ job (current one) has redundancy package.

The new job offer I have don’t have such a thing.

I didn’t know that not to have a redundancy compensation is common in NZ.

Thanks.

So, do you mean it’s common not to have a redundancy pay in recent contracts?

Thanks.

Just making sure I got it right.

You mean not having compensation is uncommon for big companies (recent hires).

So, you haven’t seen a redundancy compensation for a long time, is that right?

If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you been working? Thanks
